I too suggest that anyone interested in this printer get it directly from Brother (same price) because Amazon's method of refurbishing apparently is lacking (lots of complaints in the reviews on Amazon).
A note in case anyone needs it: I picked this up directly from Brother as an official refurb from the last deal. The printer came with new starter toner & drum kit, so you're not rolling dice on how much someone else printer before returning.

The problem with Amazon's refurbishing program is Amazon does none of the work themselves. Instead they contract out the work to many companies that are supposed to adhere to set standards of quality. Not all of the program participants are equally good at doing that.
I have this printer and it's very solid. Software is a bit annoying but you can turn off those services afterwards. Laser printers can be power hungry when it first starts the print so if you are running a portable AC or heater, it might cause your circuit to jump. I recommend turning off your AC/heater in the room if the printer uses the same breaker. In my 3 years of owning this, it's only jumped once tho.
I have this printer, bought about 1.5 yrs ago for 200 on amazon. I have this set up as wireless. Over half the time it won't connect to the PC, especially after I lose power but other times not. The reason why I bought it in the first place was my canon printer was doing the same thing. Most of the time, unplugging it and then plugging it back in will reestablish the connection, but not always. You can always initiate the scan from the PC and it connects just fine, just not always the other way around.
I use it mainly for scanning. You can not duplex scan using the document feeder. You can do one sided scans from the feeder. You will have to do duplexes manually. Or do all one side then do the other and then use other software to rearrange the pages. Also the document feeder does not work with smaller width paper like store receipts.
It's also pretty tall. I have it in my laundry room on the counter with overhead cabinets. You cannot easily open the top to get to the glass where you put the document to be scanned. I have to scoot it to the edge so I can open it enough to slip the paper in.
Other than that it works well enough. Don't think I've had problems with printing from my PC. Seems to work well in that way but I don't print a lot. And I like that the toner always works unlike inkjet printers which dry out. After this toner cartridge is done I will probably look for a more scan friendly printer.

Yeah, this is super important for most people. My advice to people looking for an AIO is to always double and triple check that the scanning is full duplex.

I bought this model on May 31, 2016, and I'm still using it today. It's a great printer, and the cartridges are affordable too, especially through Amazon.
I'm looking at Canon - imageCLASS MF273dw Wireless Black-and-White All-In-One Laser Printer - Black at Best Buy for $149 new. It was $129 recently, but I missed that sale.
Toner price is roughly equivalent. and features appear to be the same.
Any opinions would be appreciated.
Brother printers are the bomb. They're rock solid and reliable, and they don't lock down their supplies with DRM, freely allowing third party vendors to make toner carts and laser drum units that are fully-compatible. Every laser printer I've bought in the past 10 years has been a Brother.
Highly highly recommended.
