Details:
  • The Iliad:
    • Join Achilles at the Gates of Troy as he slays Hector to Avenge the death of Patroclus. Here is a story of love and war, hope and despair, and honor and glory. The recent major motion picture Helen of Troy starring Brad Pitt proves that this epic is as relevant today as it was twenty five hundred years ago when it was first written. So journey back to the Trojan War with Homer and relive the grandest adventure of all times.
  • The Odyssey:
    • Journey with Ulysses as he battles to bring his victorious, but decimated, troops home from the Trojan War, dogged by the wrath of the god Poseidon at every turn. Having been away for twenty years, little does he know what awaits him when he finally makes his way home.
  • These two books are some of the most important books in the literary canon, having influenced virtually every adventure tale ever told. And yet they are still accessible and immediate, and now you can have both in one volume.
  • Narrated by Charles Purkey.

Yes. Ancient Greek poet Homer was deeply inspired by it when he saw the early screening.

I remember anthropology class when the professor was talking about Otzi, the iceman found in the Alps. A gal suddenly yelled out, "they found him walking around?" The professor was so exasperated lol. Makes me laugh to this day.

If its not the Fagles translation, id avoid. Others are more "exact" but the Fagles is the best blend of being true to the translation, while keeping the feel of an adventure epic in our language. You might call Fagles the "King James Version" for its balance of historical accuracy, readability and pacing, and its the most read. The Wilson translation is utter garbage, its in modern street language that strips the tale of its majesty, and reinterprets much to fit an agenda.

I heard the movie is trash. Just a random collection of actors thrown into roles based on their ability to possibly bring people into the theater. Apparently a rapper has a big role in the movie. Some dude that has never acted in his life. 🤣🫣

It just released this week in theaters.
What unemployed crackhead told you that? The movie was great. I'm not saying Nolan is the best director of all time or anything, but he still makes movies that are legit spectacles worth going to the theater for. I respect that.

And the rapper, Travis Scott, plays a bard. It's quite fitting. He also collaborated with Nolan and composer Ludwig Göransson before on the score to Tenet. So it's not just some random thing.

I'd buy it if it was read by Morgan Freeman.
I'd buy it if it was read by Samuel L. Jackson.

I Know We All Are Having A Laugh,

But all that aside. That Otzi "find" is/was INCREDIBLE!!! I think people really don't realize. Or "study" it enough. 🤯 Mind blowing. Even still.

I wouldn't expect it to be trash since it's Christopher Nolan. I feel like I must be the only person who thinks zendaya is overrated as an actress. Her two note performance in dune kind of ruined it for me. I don't think she has a long appearance in the odyssey though.
