This thing was like $2350 at Microcenter before the price increases.

If only the governments do their job and crackdown on price fixing fast enough, we wouldn't have to pay such inflated prices.

It's because of AI eating all of the supply like hungry hungry hippos.

We can time travel forwards in time without time machines by waiting. By that time this laptop will be outdated and there will be a newer model instead at a lower price with even better specs. Though this will depend on how long you're willing to wait.

That's not really why the prices are going up though. That's what we have been programmed to think. Those AI data centers have already been built for most part. Adding more isn't news, it has been happening for decades. The news that Altman signed a contract for future supply has what kicked off this price racketeering. I don't know if they are shipping that yet. These memory contracts are signed for multiple years. The prices are mostly fixed for large companies. The smaller retailers prices increases are die to greed and that drove the prices because suppliers saw that people are panic buying. This kicked off a vicious cycle. This is the toilet paper all over again.

On June 25, 2026 — a class-action lawsuit was filed in California federal court against Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, alleging the three companies deliberately restricted commodity DRAM supply under the pretext of HBM expansion, driving prices up by approximately 700% over four years

I don't think we'll get a new MBP this year, they already updated this year. Possible yes, but more likely early next year.

Yeah I really don't need this much raw hardware, but man this seems like a good deal. My 2016 MBP finally kicked the can. Ideally 32gb but seems even those are around same price

They only go after price fixers when a) there's something in it for them and/or b) some corp really pissed them off.
