Spend the extra $50 and get the 2k model, unless you want to use these in an environment where you are concerned about camera loss.

It's slow and unreliable trying to run on USB only. If you need a security camera, Blink is one of the worst and trying to use it without a subscription is nearly worthless.

What are some of the best without needing a subscription?

I use Eufy for my backyard being it doesn't get a lot of traffic. Reasonably priced.

If you have a sync module 1 or 2 and are grandfathered these work and have free cloud storage. I'm using 2 right now on a sync 2 and they work great, FYI.

Maybe don't use an AmazonBasics USB drive. When I did that for a bit it worked great. Just a normal USB3 drive with 40+MB read and writes on USB 2.0.
