4GB ram laptops/chromebooks should be banned from sale. They are ewaste at this point. Only a couple of chrome tabs will make this thing run slower than a snail...

Is 4GB really that bad? I need to buy my daughter a laptop for JR High but i dont want to drop crazy money on something that might get destroyed or stolen.

Yes it is that bad. 8GB should be the minimum for Chromebooks and 16GB minimum for a windows laptop.

It would get the job done for that situation. Memory went crazy expensive so those on a budget might need to not have multiple things going at the same time. All the lower priced windows laptops are only 8gb now and many can't be upgraded either. I was watching a youtube review this week and background operating system ate 6+gigs. Not much left for your apps. Like one at a time or it slows. Long ago we had a flipping hourglass we got used to watching for up to minutes using windows but we've mostly forgotten that frustration thankfully.

4GB is sufficient for most high school tasks. Infact you get a better Chromebook (open box) for 73$ on best buy.
I've been testing it for weeks and it works really well

I run a small k-8 school and all our chromebooks are 4gb. They are good enough for kids doing google suite things. IF you have an older Macbook pro, 2013 or further laying around, you can turn that into a chromebook and those work great as a chromebook.
