I would HIGHLY recommend anyone interested in Alan Watts to read The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are [goodreads.com]. Eye opening and world changing from a self perspective. The Way of Zen is great, The Book is great+++.

*** PSA: Alan Watts deserves great credit for POPULARIZING Zen, i.e. introducing it to Westerners. His actual understanding of Zen however is fairly superficial, and he was more an ADMIRER of Zen than an actual PRACTITIONER. If interested in works of substance, I'd suggest "Opening the Hand of Thought" by Kosho Uchiyama or "Beginner's Mind" by Shunryu Suzuki.
