iirc Midea makes their washers.

Midea MLTW37A1BWW is similar in construction and features and I believe they have interchangeable parts but I haven't verified.

These simpler units have less failure prone parts than the modern "smart" washers that cost a fortune.

The electronic control board in my $1200 GE 4.8 cubic ft smart front load washing machine failed in the first 4 months of ownership - was replaced under warranty, but they are only expected to last ~5 years.

This Insignia/Midea still has an electronic control board, despite having no smart features. And I'd have serious concerns about getting parts for it down the road.

Not a single home appliance is made to last, anymore. So, that argument is moot. You'd basically need to move into professional territory to not have to replace something in the 4 to 5 year mark, depending on use.

Don't they all? You aware of any washer with a mechincal dashboard? I don't think they exist, smart, or not.

I'm currently on the hunt via marketplace for the same model top loading washing machine that we had up until about 5 years ago. I looked up the model when I came across one for sale a couple of weeks back (someone beat me to buying it) and apparently, amongst consumers and repairmen alike, it's known as one of the most reliable/durable washing machines ever. And of course we foolishly got rid of it because it had one simple, easy to repair issue. (The lid switch needed replacing). The next machine we got lasted a whopping 5 years before we had to replace it last week due to an issue big enough that it would've been to costly to bother with . The machine I'm looking for lasted us 10+ years, after buying it SECOND HAND, and even then only had a very minor issue. Just a matter of time before someone in my area is looking to let one go for a new scam machine because they're shiny and have fancy frills....and at that point I'm jumping to get it and holding on to it for dear life.

Ben's appliances mentioned that the parts for these are hard to source. Just keep that in mind when things start to break.

Not trying to TD this but I bought a SpeedQueen and have never looked back. I could wash a load of bricks and it would come back for more.

Yes, a mixing tub. HQ broads last 15-20 years, ie Speed Queen. My 13 year old whirlpool is still kick.

Best is buy refurbished whirlpool and SQ for $300-500.

Worst thing about modern washers is the constant "unbalanced load" errors. Older washers just powered through whatever you gave it. But it seems like if a modern washer detects even 1 extra ounce of load weight on one side of the wash basin versus the other, it immediately throws a hissy fit and needs you to intervene.

Unless your washer is so delicate that the extra ounce will immediately break the machine, I fail to see how this is a "feature."

Exactly what I am going through with a Samsung top load. The dreaded UB or UR error code happens so often that a quick wash can take 4 hours and requires constant babysitting. Looking for an old Speed Queen.
