A griddle in general (not just this specific Weber one, but any griddle) allows you to cook things that would normally fall through the gaps between grill grates. So anything that is a liquid to start--pancakes like the other commenter mentioned, eggs, etc. Also anything that is relatively small like sliced or diced onions, shredded potatoes for hashbrowns, ground meats, etc. And because of the single flat surface, you can get a better crust on steak, although some folks prefer grill grate marks for the visual appeal. It has its use cases where its better than grill grates.

These are cheaper than a standalone griddle and are very well made. Whether they're worth the price is your call, but for saving space on a deck or patio these double the usefulness of an existing grill.

This is my situation. I have a 300-series Genesis grill, but I don't have enough room on my deck for a stand alone griddle like a Blackstone or another Weber. I've always wanted a griddle to cook things like eggs, bacon, pancakes, smash burgers, steaks, fajitas, etc... in large portions. There are many cheaper inserts from off-brands on Amazon, but long term they end up rusting and losing their non-stick coatings. This is the first time I've seen the bigger insert for less than $200.

Same. I got one last year from an open box auction site and I love it. It's not as big as a standalone Weber Slate but it's big enough for my family of 5. A full block of bacon fits no problem. The one drawback is cleanup is probably a little messier but that's about it. These stay seasoned and hold up well.

Not at this price, $139 is wild. I paid $100 for a knock off Chinese one 3 years ago. Best investment ever I have cooked hundreds of breakfast on it and stir fry it's one of the best buys you can get for the Weber. And easy to swap back to a normal grill

Picked one up off a local auction site years ago. Absolutely love this thing. Use it for pancakes, eggs, chicken thighs, vegetables, smash burgers, etc. I actually have an extra one for the Spirit grills if anyone is in the Kansas City area and looking for an even better deal than this.

Couldn't agree more. I love Weber but the quality has dropped in the years since they sold out. There's one for $110 on Amazon that will be just as good as this.

Can you talk to me a little bit about flare ups and potential fires? Debating getting this for space savings or eventually just getting the slate (dumb me missed the slate on the other deal after not reading it fully).

People say the amount of grease into the grill box can be an issue. Do you have to clean your grill box all the time?

Sure. I have a Genesis. The drain is in the back right corner so grease tends to drain from there straight into the bottom tray and the opening to the drip pan is right there. I haven't had any issues with flare-ups. I do turn off at least the right burner before I push a lot of grease down. Most foods don't generate a ton of grease, bacon is the worst.
