I just started replaying this a few weeks ago and forgot just how good it is. At this price it's an absolute steal.

Bought this game a long time ago for PS4 on a cheap deal. Didn't expect much but then proceeded to finish the whole campaign in one weekend. Really solid tower defense game worth at least $10-15. A steal at this price.

That's the first Defense Grid. This is mid 2010s.

Defend the cores!

I'd go on vacation to another country and end up playing the original DG for hours instead of maximizing time in that country. DG2 is solid, but not as good as the original.

(Re)Played through this with a friend just a couple months ago. Mostly holds up! It has a few weird niggling issues. I kinda like the persistent, roguelite "tower upgrades" you get between missions but it meant that I always hosted the multiplayer matches because I had stronger towers and the host towers are used regardless of who places it. I think it would be cool if you unlocked them all a lot faster, and then each player could customize which upgrades were used by the towers they place.

My overall takeaway is that the game is fine, good even, but it's a bit lumbering. The waves aren't big or thick enough to feel "large scale" like some of my favorite tower defense games, and just in general, most enemies move slow, the towers are built slow - the game gives you time to think about stuff. I like the AoE weapons and wanted some truly massive clusters of enemies to get good use out of them.

By coincidence, the day after we finished our replay, new DLC for the game came out. First DLC in over a decade. That was not planned by us, it just happened - and I assume that DLC is the reason they're selling the base game so cheap now.
