We were given a hand-me-down no-name ice maker almost identical to this. Had it about two weeks. Interesting the way it works and watching this little thing chug out ice. It's been nice, but the ice isn't as solid as what comes from the refrigerator's ice maker. Thin, so it melts quickly in the glass, and you can almost chew it from the maker. Imagine higher-quality makers have more solid ice, maybe a few more convenience features.

Countertop ice makers only get the ice cold enough to stay solid, barely below freezing point. Ice from the freezer gets down to the freezer temp before you use it, so usually 0-10 degrees F. That's the reason the ice maker's ice feels softer and melts faster than ice from the freezer.

Why even include the last part of the title since it's always going to have free shipping being more than $35?

Incorrect. Not "...always.." some items require shipping from seller which are not fulfilled by Amazon.

I bought two of these from two different brands over the years and neither lasted more than two years. I don't even use it very often and I don't know if that's the case because we only use it in the summer and it's turned off for the rest of the year.

The title changed. Originally this was only a Walmart deal and it says "free shipping with walmart+ or over $35"

FYI: Project Farm did an ice machine comparison a month ago. Different model (but research reveals it may just be updated streamlined model with same internals) but Fridgeair did pretty well, basically topping the machines that make "bullet" ice.

Also note that per CCC, this model was $69 (NICE) originally on Amz so "only" a $4 discount.

Doesn't appear to have ever been $120 dollars as advertised. Real price has been $69.00 so not half the cost as being promoted.

I happend to watch a generic repair vid on these "bullet" type of ice makers. I have a "cube" version that seems far simpler with less moving parts. It uses the same compresors and what differs is there is no bucket tray that holds the water while freezing that needs to flip over during ice ejection. I saw plastic gears and sensers that are problermatic.

My maker needs a new 120mm fan that pulls the hot air off. It howls lust like a heater motor in your car. I have had it for 10 months and use it once or twice a week, so I am disapointed that something from this brand can have sutch issues at this point of its life.

If you ever had the french door refridgerators with ice and water in the door, you will probably have the issue of the ice maker crapping out in it. They wanted $900 for a new left hand door to fix it. My solution was to get a table top maker and bag my own ice to fill the fridges ice dispensor manually.

You spend $5k on a pretty fridge that lasts 5yrs. The basement fridge is a 1981 gibson and I replaced the fan 4yrs ago.. Things are made to be disposible these days..

I had one of these for when relatives are around all summer, my opinion is it's not worth bothering. Pick up a 10 pound bag of ice from the store on the way home, put it in a cooler (or the freezer if you have room). Bagged ice is solid, doesn't melt like the 'bullet' ice does in 10 seconds, and then you don't have to mess with setting up a machine, refilling it with water, cleaning it out and putting it away.

Picking up ice or even making extra ice in an existing ice maker is definitely a good option. That said, one use case of these is they always have ice ready and if you don't have extra freezer space in the location it's at, this is handy because it's a self contained unit.

Downside is these are a bit noisy and they're making ice non stop because they typically don't keep the ice cold enough to stay frozen after making.
