This French Vanilla coffee syrup is mainly about low price and sugar free sweetness for coffee, but the ingredient mix matters. The formula is described as containing erythritol and sucralose, with some notes that Splenda products also rely on fillers like dextrin and maltodextrin. Taste is the biggest drawback, with the French Vanilla flavor called weak and the erythritol aftertaste and cooling effect standing out. Health concerns around erythritol also come up, though the comments do not agree on how serious those risks are, making it a budget option with some baggage.

  • Coffee drinkers who want a strong sweetener, because it sweetens effectively in coffee and a little goes a long way.

  • People who prefer erythritol-based sweeteners, because the formula uses erythritol with sucralose instead of pure sucralose.

  • Shoppers comparing sugar-free syrups by flavor, because the French vanilla taste can be a poor fit versus other brands.

  • People who react badly to erythritol, because it can cause heart palpitations, rapid heartbeat, or a cooling aftertaste.

  • Shoppers wanting a pure sucralose syrup, because this formula includes erythritol and fillers instead of only sucralose.

  • Buyers avoiding sugar alcohols for gut comfort, because erythritol can cause digestive issues beyond moderate intake.

While I agree with your last point, they chose one of the most problematic and questionable to do it.
There is nothing unsafe about erythritol in moderation. You can safely eat 50 grams of it daily. That's been studied over and over. After that, you might get digestive issues being a sugar alcohol.

Erythritol is used because it's 70% as sweet as sugar and much easier to work with for the average person especially in the powder form. What would you have used instead since pure sucralose is next to impossible to work with being as sweet as it is?

Glycerin or sorbitol.

Those are both fine too. Nothing wrong with those if that's your preference.

But even the Splenda packets aren't pure sucralose or anything close to it. I bet something like 99.5% of those packets are maltodextrin and dextrose. A very small percentage of it is actually sucralose.

Pure sucralose is 600x sweeter than sugar. How exactly do you sweeten something like coffee or whatever you're making with something 600x sweeter than sugar? That's completely unusable in a realistic situation. One grain wouldn't be sweet enough and two grains of sucralose would be too sweet to eat or drink.
You use a filler to mix. They could have made this with sucralose only but didn't.

10g of erythritol causes my heart to to skip beats and race to 100bpm. So for me specifically, it's very unsafe. I read the studies afterwards. I'm within normal BMI and work out 3-4 days a week. No other health problems.

What do you think the erythritol is? It's a filler - the same thing people are complaining about. Would you prefer something like maltodextrin that they use in their packets as a filler with a very high glycemic index? I'd personally prefer erythritol with a 0 glycemic index used as a filler, but that's just me. Saying I want to eat a "filler" is pretty generic. What's the specific filler you'd like in here that you're ok with it being probably 99% plus of the volume of the sweetener used?

Yeah because nothing says scientific proof quite like anecdotal evidence.

With that said, i'm within the normal BMI and work out regularly too. No health problems at all. I use products with erythritol regularly in recipes and have no side effects from it at all.

But if it doesn't agree with you, use a different product. It's that simple. Still perfectly safe in moderation.

There's data to back it. None of these fake sugars are good for you.

Again, you claim these are perfectly safe and you have no real world longevity studies to back that statement. These fake sugars are practically brand new when it comes to food science. The real answer is we don't know yet.

Good for you? Is cane sugar good for you? Nothing, outside of something like whole fruit, is going to be good for you that adds sweetness to something. Even natural sources like honey are not "good for you" from a health standpoint when outside normal moderation.

These artificial sweeteners have been around for decades. There have been more studies on them deeming them safe (safe, not healthy) than I can count. They don't cause heart attacks and strokes in otherwise healthy people. This has been proven over and over again. Saying otherwise is just spreading typical internet BS. No different than all the seed oil nonsense being spread around too. The internet is a cesspool for this kind of stuff.

There is also no scientific proof that sugar free stuff is BETTER alternative than sugar but that doesn't stop the beverage companies from marketing that zero sugar is better alternative despite not saying outright. There is guy at my work loves to drink zero sugar stuff. He took the beverage companies' hook, line, and sinker by saying, "but these have no sugar' which implies that he was told zero stuff is better alternative but in reality, there is no such thing as healthier soda and saying healthier soda is like saying smoking light cigarettes can reduce your chance of heart diseases and lung cancer.

I think you continue to confuse healthy and safe for some reason. They're not mutually exclusive.

Anyone that drinks soda, in any form that thinks it's a "healthy" option, has no clue what "healthy" is. Diet soda, in moderation, is a safe option. Water is a healthy option. Regardless, why are you even using this person as an example to prove your point? Random anecdotal evidence means next to nothing.

Overwhelming majority of the consumable products are safe, some in moderation. That's implied otherwise, people wouldn't buy them. Why are more people suddenly consuming zero sugar stuff? Because these companies were able to market that consuming zero sugar products are "healthier" than sugar stuff. My example isn't random. Look at the sale data of zero sugar drinks. Coca Cola said last quarter that zero sugar drinks sales were extremely pleasing.

Trends. No different than everything being labeled "high protein" now even stuff that's clearly not high protein or just plain junk food. It's because it's what sells right now and that's what these companies are really here for in the end - to maximize profits and sell their products.

So i'm in agreement with you here. My issue is more with the people saying by consuming erythritol, you're going to have a heart attack or stroke based on one bogus study that never even studied dietary erythritol. It's constantly regurgitated here every time some artificial sweetener product is trending and it's complete internet nonsense.

I was just interested in the coffee syrup but who knew this is where all the excitement is. I am going to take a chair, eat some unflavored popcorn, and read why everything is bad when consumed.
