The point is 60W-equivalent seems to be a pleasing amount of warm lighting, and you'd illuminate your space with multiple of them. If you wanted more light for, say, cleaning purposes or some other work, you usually wouldn't want warm white.

Because they are usually used in a group. My dining room chandelier has 5 bulbs. So 300W equivalent may be too bright for the company that gathers at the table.

With that logic, there should be no limit on max brightness, and all dimmable lamps should be 300W-equivalent and super-expensive Smilie

Most people won't bother dimming a 60w bulb. They barely bright enough even at max.
The dimmable feature is just a included feature that doesn't cost more. Thats how I see it.
