The CG3 is a compact home functional trainer that stands out for smooth cables, easy assembly, and versatile cable work, from chest pressing and crossovers to arms, shoulders, and ab exercises. The 2 to 1 pulley setup means the effective resistance is only 110 pounds when both stacks are tied together, which feels light for some lifts. The listing also points to an optional 50 pound add on, though that upgrade sounds involved. It is a strong value for cable training if you can live with the lighter stack.

Common Questions (4)

  • It appears very similar in layout, but the Costco Centr 2 has a middle column for added stability, a 165 lb-per-side stack, and includes a bench plus a one-year subscription. The CG3 listing is the lighter, simpler version with a 110 lb 2:1 stack.

  • The listing states you can buy and add an additional 50 lb of weights, but doing so may require extra parts like a longer stem and shorter cables. Adding more weights can also void the warranty.

  • The CG3 uses a 2:1 ratio, so the effective resistance is 110 lb total when both sides are tied together, with 55 lb per stack independently. The lighter stack is the main limitation people point out for heavier movements.

  • It can be used for cable chest pressing with the right bar, but it is awkward for traditional bench press and not the best choice if benching is your main goal. It works better as a cable machine for chest variations, rows, arms, shoulders, and rope-based work.

The Centr 2 from costco also has a middle column which should provide more stability.
Was wondering what column you were talking about. Looks like they upgraded it. It used to be two supports just like this one but only thicker. Also added mesh for safety.
Centr 2 can't add weight per old description. I haven't tried that though.

It's 220 if you combine them and you can probably add a gym pin for some more flexibility. Probably a good deal when all is said and done, although it is a bit on the light side.
No it's not. It's only 110 when both sides are being lifted.

I have the Costco version of this and the weight stack goes up to 150 which is still pretty low but better than 110. I think there may be a separate weight upgrade you can purchase but I never looked into it

You can add 50 to each side. Look at how the selector rod goes past the weights on the bottom. You'll take out a spacer and add 5 plates on each side.

You have to buy the weights, a new longer stem, and new shorter cables. With installation it's kind of a hassle for a few more pounds.

This is an insane deal. I have one, plus a commercial Free Motion Dual Cable Machine and I'm considering getting this just because it's such a great deal.

I can train every muscle group with this machine, pain free and have made great gains with it.

For true hypertrophy workouts, I would say the weight is plenty heavy enough but actually isn't light enough for some movements. If you are a wanna-be gym bro and think this isn't enough weight, you don't know what you are doing. If you are a respectable human being and unsure if this is enough weight, research Doug Brignole and the Brig-20 movements. I promise you'll make progress with this one piece of equipment alone.

The cables are surprisingly long and give you freedom to do a lot with very little. Assembly is super easy, just need another person to help hold it up right while you bolt it down.

I believe I paid $1500 during Covid and don't regret it at all. I upgraded to the Free Motion because as you will soon find out, once you own a home gym you'll have everything you need until you want a new piece of equipment and then your life is empty until you get that new piece you've always wanted lol.

Sorry, noob here. Can you bench with this setup? Combine the stacks?

Cable chest ("bench") pressing is absolutely amazing, as are cable crossovers and 20 other chest variations with a functional trainer.
Forget about the ancient bench press. With a cable machine and a bench at ~90 degrees, you can "press" seated with a single cable in each hand at unlimited angles, with unlimited stretch, with unlimited crossing motions, etc., etc. etc.

I've had the original Inspire Fitness FT1 for over a decade. It looks almost identical to this one but with the full weight stack. However, I don't know if there is any difference in the materials used between the two.
These machines are worth 10X as much in a home gym. This one will be limiting for some people due to its lower weight stack, especially for an exercise like lat pulldowns.

2:1 ratio, therefore only 110lbs even tied together. Max of each stack is 55lbs independently.

I spent $550 on a REP bench and a combo pack of CAP dumbbells (5,10,15,20,25). I can't see any benefits of this machine over what I have. It's just a pulley system - for $700 - You're better off spending less - and lifting free weights.

This is decent for the price. I have a similar version. The cables are smooth enough that it "almost" feels commercial quality smooth. Obviously, the weight and structure isn't there and would never hold up in a commercial environment. But a machine like this is good enough to do a variety of bi/tri's exercises, shoulder exercises, any exercise you need a rope for like ab crunches and others. It is NOT great for bench press. It is super awkward getting under the bar to do so. At this price, it makes a great adjunct piece to put in your home gym. Whenever you need a cable exercise, at least it's there for you.

I have one too. It is a great machine. I worked maintenance in a commercial gym for 8 years. This thing is much better than 90% of the residential stuff they would bring in to demo. It isn't commercial but it is insanely good at this price point.

Anyone who ordered this get any status updates yet? My order status hasn't moved off of 'placed'.

I know freight shipping means it'll move slower, but figured it might start moving by now.

Not shipped. Walmart wanted to offer $10 promo code for the delay. I refused
