Nope.

To switch from front to back measurement, you MUST use the app. There is no "on unit" switch, which makes this impractical. You can't make a change on the fly.

"How to switch:

Connect the device to the Mijia (Mi Home) app via Bluetooth
In the app settings, you can toggle between measuring from the front edge or the back edge of the device

This is confirmed by the manufacturer in the product Q&A section."

lmao, terrible. This would be great without that nonsense!

Absolutely wild we're in an era where putting bluetooth on a $20-30 product and requiring an app is being chosen over a frickin button. This reeks of a data harvesting scam.

I'm a weight weenie about my tool kit, and I like sleek design, but for a lot of items, I won't forego good function.

Here's a reliable, easy to use, easy to read laser distance measure that takes standard AAA batteries and is still reasonably compact:

They occasionally go on sale for ~$35.

This is the one I use at work. I also have an older Bosch LDM that has held up for 15 years, and has even gone through the wash. (Had to open it up but once dried, it still reads accurately.)

...just don't use alkaline AAAs in those. I had some leak bad enough that it destroyed mine Frown

This one for $29 but with replaceable batteries and no need for app. Looks like it goes down to $25 often with lowest price of $21.50 in 2025.

Bought one, regret it. I'd say it's more of a neat toy unless you really need something like this

read the reviews. sounds pretty useless unless you want something not very accurate.
