...and it has been fairly regularly available on and off for between $120-$180 over the last year.
Anyway, the E-model was the cheaper, slightly less capable (and significantly less visually attractive) OEM version of the Gen3 Nest Learning Thermostat originally only available to installers, that only much later made it to the consumer market.
You're likely thinking of the Nest (non-learning) Thermostat, which is the current lower-end model and counterpart to the Gen4 Nest Learning Thermostat, which has none of the signature intelligent features of the Nest Learning Thermostat series - which is also why it is priced significantly lower, usually around $80, but regularly seen as low as $50.
I still haven't been able to set this up with my 2-wire system. I'm trying to replace the obsolete 1st Gen Nest (before Google bought them) which worked great. Google offered me a discount when they no longer supported the app. I contacted Google and they sent me the power extender adapter, but even after I installed it, the Nest 4 still kept saying there wasn't enough power. Very frustrated on why this doesn't work, about to abandon it and try a Honeywell or Ecobee, but those might require a C-wire as well. Anyone else have the same experience and had any luck with a fix?

age of the house doesn't matter, its about if your HVAC unit provides correct wiring, most do.
