This 6 inch Vornado Pivot is a compact air circulator best suited to very close, targeted use on a desk, nightstand, or in a small room corner. It can help keep air moving in tight spaces, support HVAC mixing, and even keep aquarium water cooler without a chiller. The main limits are weak airflow at a distance, a short 6 foot cord, and noticeable noise. There is also a report of early failure and some uncertainty about the listed size.

Common Questions (4)

  • It works best when placed very close, such as on an office desk or nightstand. It is reported to be weak a few feet away unless run on full blast, and some users say it barely moves any air.

  • Yes. It is designed to move air around a small room rather than blast directly at you, making it useful for mixing trapped air near a PC, bay window, bathroom, kitchen, or other tight spaces.

    psychism66Days

  • It is described as very loud by one owner, and another reported a complete structural failure after time on the mount. A separate report says Vornado replaced a failed unit with a reasonable credit and free shipping toward another fan.

  • The power cord is about 6 feet long. That length is enough for small-space use, but it may be limiting if the outlet is far from your desk or bedside table.

Does the term "air circulator" seem superfluous before the word "fan"?
I have about a three dozen Vornado fans, and at least half a dozen of these. To me the difference is that a fan is designed to blow air at you while an air circulator is designed to move air about the room. I use these in smaller rooms, like my den and office, where air gets trapped in a corner making it difficult to manage the temperature. If you have a shared HVAC where the only way to control the temperature of a room is to open or close the gate, these do wonders for making the smaller rooms maintain the same temperature as the connecting room(s). But this model in particular really works best when you want to target specific spot. For me, my PC makes my office easily 10-15 degrees higher, and a south facing bay window in my den adds nearly as much heat in the summer. This doesn't cool the room itself, or make me feel cooler directly, but it does an ok job of supporting the HVAC by getting the hot air to mix with the rest of the house.

IMO, buy a bigger one if you want a ceiling fan replacement. But, if you just need to move air into the center of a small room, this is a solution.

I had one of these that, as has been mentioned, didn't move a lot of air. But it worked great to keep the marine aquarium water from getting too warm. They sell chillers for this purpose, but this fan was much cheaper to buy and to run. Just my two cents.

Idk.. these guys are winners. Do u own this this to give such a perspective?
The larger Vornado fans are good, but I bought this one and it's not great. There are USB fans that put out more airflow.

This seems to be available for $9.97 again, but a google search for the model number (CR1-0281-85) found it at Home Depot [homedepot.com] listed as 4" and not 6" as shown on Amazon, so not sure what's up with that. Also, the links on the Amazon page for Installation Manual and User Guide are for completely different/unrelated products (the User Manual is for this product but doesn't contain any specifications, so take it for what it's worth).
