What is different from Sony, is how each company takes care of their consumer after having to end their programs. Ultraviolet was ended a few years ago and libraries connected to it were nearly wiped out, but Walmart, Fandango, and I believe MoviesAnywhere came to an agreement with them near the 11th hour to maintain the libraries.
If you are that concerned about owning digital, my recommendation would be to avoid it entirely. It will be a few years, possibly decades, before we get pro consumer legislation on digital ownership.
