Google AI Pro for students is a strong value at $4.99 a month, bundling Gemini access with 5 TB of Google Drive storage and YouTube Premium Lite, with some accounts also showing Gemini Health Coach. The promo has been claimed through Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, and Gemini, though the claim flow can be finicky and sometimes redirects to the normal manage plans page or full price. The offer also appears to recur after a prior trial ends, and some accounts needed extra verification beyond the .edu email. It is a useful bundle if you want the storage and paid Gemini features together.
Students who can trigger the offer from Google Drive or Sheets, because the claim flow works from those Google apps when browser links fail.
People who need reliable claim flow on the first try, because the offer can redirect to manage plans or disappear and leave the discounted price unavailable.
Yes. Clicking the popup can route to the normal manage-membership page, show only the $20 plan, or say the offer is unavailable. In some cases, reopening Drive in Chrome or using the Drive app's Plus button is what finally lets the claim go through.
The offer can surface in Google Drive, Google Docs, or the Drive app instead of Sheets or Gemini. Opening Drive from your Google account, then using the banner or Plus/Claim button, has worked when browser claim links redirected to the normal plan page.
Yes, the student promo can renew for another 12 months at about $5/month after the prior trial ends. The membership screen may show a future start date and a next payment of $19.99/month, but the subscription settings can still show the $4.99 next payment.
For heavy use, the paid plan can be worth it because it adds 5TB storage and extra features, while the free Gemini account already includes the same core models for many users. For lighter use, the free tier may be enough, but the paid plan is the better fit when you need more capacity or storage.
Yes. The plan includes Gemini access, Google Drive 5TB storage, and YouTube Premium Lite, with some listings also mentioning Gemini Health Coach. That makes it a much larger bundle than Gemini access alone.
If you have an Android phone, odds are this is a no-brainer deal to do. If you don't, but still use the Google ecosystem, it's probably worth it. If not, and Gemini Pro is tempting you, it's probably not worth it.
That said, if you're on this site, odds are you spend $5 a month on sillier things.
Amazing deal. You get a lot for your money. Gemini, YouTube lite premium, Google Drive 5tb, Gemini Health coach.
Honestly not sure why this has 5 downvotes, $60 for a year of AI plus all the things you listed is a great deal. Maybe they didn't qualify for the deal?
I was able to get this by canceling it in the computer Chrome browser and then going back into my Sheets tab and reloading the page. My free year was about to expire under the Student account version.
I tried doing this but the $5/mo price went away and was replaced by full price!
Finally got the offer showing again and when I click claim it still brings me to the manage plans and doesn't allow me to actually claim the offer. I thought maybe it was my Google Home add on so I canceled that but that didn't fix anything and now I can't enable that again.

I've been using Gemini AI for a year and a half now. I got the first year free trial when I bought the Pixel 9 Pro. I don't think Gemini subscription is worth paying for because you get all the same AI models (Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro) on the free account. Their free account usage limit is pretty generous so only pay if you genuinely run into usage limits constantly.
The downside is that it's probably the weakest frontier model right now compared to ChatGPT and Claude. I kept running into issues where if I attach a relatively small Excel or .csv file, it would constantly give me "Something went wrong, try again later." error. ChatGPT and Claude had no trouble processing the same files.
I would use the free Gemini account as a daily driver for non-critical stuff and save the money for a Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus subscription for serious work. Gemini 3.5 Pro kept getting delayed so it looks like they'll be behind again.

I got the popup too, but when I clicked on it all it offered me was the $20 plan. Not great.
If you can't get the popup in Sheets, try Gemini. It showed in both places for me.
