If you have an Android phone, odds are this is a no-brainer deal to do. If you don't, but still use the Google ecosystem, it's probably worth it. If not, and Gemini Pro is tempting you, it's probably not worth it.

That said, if you're on this site, odds are you spend $5 a month on sillier things.

I tried doing this but the $5/mo price went away and was replaced by full price!

Finally got the offer showing again and when I click claim it still brings me to the manage plans and doesn't allow me to actually claim the offer. I thought maybe it was my Google Home add on so I canceled that but that didn't fix anything and now I can't enable that again.

I've been using Gemini AI for a year and a half now. I got the first year free trial when I bought the Pixel 9 Pro. I don't think Gemini subscription is worth paying for because you get all the same AI models (Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Pro) on the free account. Their free account usage limit is pretty generous so only pay if you genuinely run into usage limits constantly.

The downside is that it's probably the weakest frontier model right now compared to ChatGPT and Claude. I kept running into issues where if I attach a relatively small Excel or .csv file, it would constantly give me "Something went wrong, try again later." error. ChatGPT and Claude had no trouble processing the same files.

I would use the free Gemini account as a daily driver for non-critical stuff and save the money for a Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus subscription for serious work. Gemini 3.5 Pro kept getting delayed so it looks like they'll be behind again.

I got the popup too, but when I clicked on it all it offered me was the $20 plan. Not great.
If you can't get the popup in Sheets, try Gemini. It showed in both places for me.
