I'm so confused on why they would only create this product in red. It feels like it's a polarizing as a single color product

One of the reviews said it was actually gray. I grabbed one since I can just return it if I don't like it after seeing it up close.

this is about 50-50 dark red and grey. I bought one and sent one to a friend as a gift. If this was labeled REI or labeled Jansport, and was listed as $200, on sale for $75, it would sell out quickly. It is not designed to climb Mt Everest, but it is well made with many features of high end packs.
And, I do own 5 very high end packs.

My guess is it did come in other color options and this red/gray version was unpopular for exactly the reason you mention. It's probably overstock and that's why it's on clearance.

FWIW, I did buy one the last time it came back into stock. The red definitely wouldn't have been my first choice, but it's not as bad as it appears in the pictures. It's more an understated wine red vs fire engine red and the grey accents further tone down the visual impact. More importantly, it has a surprising number of useful features (accessory rain cover, separate sleeping bag compartment, load stabilizing straps on the shoulder harness, aluminum frame stay, hydration bladder compatible, etc) and seems well built. I wouldn't attempt to thru hike the AT with this pack, but it's a steal at $15.

FYI it has previously gone in and out of stock multiple times at this clearance price. If you're interested, sign up to be notified at the Walmart website - that's how I got mine.
