I bought this at the previous sale, quite a solid machine. It isn't heavy duty per se but it can handle most clothes and denim material

This is heavy duty for a home unit and definitely the best you'll find under $200. every household should have one. Don't toss perfectly good and expensive items because they've torn. Shoot my REI socks were $20 each

It's costco... if the machine fails. Return it. Fails after 5 years? You technically can still return it.

No issues so far, everything seems good. I saw a similar broken machine at a local maker space but someone had ruined the bobbin area. If you follow common sense, it is a reliable machine for general sewing. Def not "heavy duty" though.

i bought this for my wife as her Brother Sewing Machine (also purchased from Costco a few years ago (but not available now)) was in need of small repair. My wife is not a super experienced sewer--more like a weekend repair or hobbyist once in a while. She did not prefer this Singer. Apparently, she felt it was a lot of fiddling to just get going on each job. A lot of adjustments. And, this was a smaller point, the Brother machine, which is computer controlled (rather than manual like this Singer) allowed for more speed variability with a slider. So we decided to get the Brother repaired and returned the Singer.
