The handy alkaline battery support is also qualified by the fact that the operation of the lantern is significantly altered in dry cell mode. High mode is reduced from 5000 lumens to 1000 lumens while low mode is halved from 500 lumens to 250 lumens. The upside to both changes is that the lantern has significantly extended runtimes on alkaline batteries in those reduced modes, with 12 hours at high and 60 hours at low.
