I have enjoyed Orico's docking station/duplicators for years. This is by far the largest I've ever seen. But I have never had a problem with their build quality or performance. The ONLY time I ever had a problem was one time I forgot to plug the USB cable into the PC before trying to access the two drives in the bay. When I powered it up, it started to prepare to copy the first drive onto the second! (Totally my fault!) Fortunately, I caught it in time!! Wink

5 drives w/ no fan Frown

I suggest a small USB powered fan to cool your drives for heavy/long transfers. Even if you only have one HDD or SSD in there. Heat kills drives. They say the aluminum housing dissipates heat but I'd still suggest a small USB powered fan on it.

I bought this dock this past January. I have it connected to a mini computer server and it is on 24/7. Haven't had any issues. I'm fairly sure that it supports ssd trim capabilities, which many external docks do not support.

Anyone know if DBAN would see these drives if they were plugged into a computer? I know it sees USB external drives, but unsure if this needs specific drivers

That sounds like a very dangerous default behavior.

That auto-start on cloning would keep me from using this dock for anything but cloning/copying. Too easy for simple human error or hardware and software issues to trigger a data wipe. Tough to be fair, it seems the instructions say cloning start is initiated by pressing the cloning button, quoted below.

"Steps to Clone Offline (No PC Required):

Insert drives – Place the source drive in Bay 1 (the designated source slot) and insert the target drive(s) in the remaining bays
Power on – Press the power button to turn on the unit
Press the Clone button – Hold the Clone/Duplicate button until the LED indicators begin to flash, signaling the cloning process has started
Monitor progress – The LED indicators will show the cloning status; solid light typically means complete
Wait for completion – Do not remove drives until all LEDs confirm the process is done
"

Just to read that the hard drive reader cost $66? Isn't that a bit too much to just read your hard drive? Just a thought

I have their standard external single drive usb that I've used maybe 10years without failure. That enclosure oveheated like crazy to where the ssd wouldn't work. I think I threw away the ssd also because it ruined it but the enclosure for sure before it burned up another one. I paid the 2x price for some ASUS tuf whatever metal enclosures which have been flawless. I've read mixed reviews on this and don't need it beyond a single that can be done with a crossover cable and software that I do only a few times in a lifetime. Usually just mount it and do it that way.

IIRC it's also mentioned in the manual but who reads those right?

I bought 1 when it was sale about a year ago, no issues with speed and transfer and sleep mode. Unless your dog can switch the tab to cloning mode and Hold the Clone/Duplicate button until the LED indicators begin to flash then you should be ok, got my second one delivered today
