Did they make way too many of these or something?

Its the standard 20% off cycle that Lego sets always go through.

Just a reminder that Sams Club is having their in-store clearance on legos to make room for Halloween/Christmas items, and for the new lego sets coming out. The $5 Hummingbird sets are gone at all of my stores, but a bunch of other sets that I wasnt interested in were still in stock. (Harry Potter, Mine Craft, etc)

As far as the specific price itself, yes. In terms of the frequency that this set seems to go on sale vs other sets, it does make me wonder if they made too many of them or etc.

Lego seems to be riding a wave of nostalgia lately. Star Wars and Harry Potter seem to be timeless, but I'm curious to see how the Goonies or the just released X files sets do. This was the first movie I saw in theaters and am obviously the right demographic for, as Lego caters to older adults these days. But with printed pieces and two minifis, it's also a great speed champions set too.

I couldn't say to the specifics of that, but I seem to recall once the initial "lets try to get full price" part runs out, they often go in and out of sale very quickly. This is part of the 2026 Speed Champions line, maybe they're finding out the people who get them really want high end cars, not movie props. *shrug* either way I bought it, actually built it last night, doesn't quite have the hit of a Ferrarri or Lambo though, so yeah I can understand if they have too much stock left.

This was definitely the most popular set earlier this year. For the longest time, this was the only set that was sold out at both the Costco and Target that I frequent. I think this price for a licensed IP and 2 minifigs is one of the best deals around.
