This refurbished Aspire 16 AI stands out as a light 16 inch laptop with strong specs for the money, especially 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, Intel Arc 140V graphics, and a 120Hz touch display. The screen is described as bright, crisp, semi matte, and smooth thanks to VRR down to 30Hz, while the 65W charger keeps the carry load simple. It also looks capable for everyday gaming and some local AI or machine learning work. The main knocks are build quality, possible cooling and fan noise concerns, and a wireless card failure on arrival in one case. The price feels less compelling than earlier refurb pricing, though warranty coverage and coupon discounts help soften it.

  • The laptop includes 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD, which supports local AI and ML workflows.

  • The included 65W charger is described as simple to carry, and the listing reportedly includes a two-year warranty.

  • The display is described as crisp and bright, with VRR support down to 30Hz for smoother visuals.

  • The system is reported to run non-AAA gaming quickly and to emulate Switch in docked mode without issues.

  • The listing's "Intel Arc Graphics 140V" labeling is questioned as not being "AI."

  • A refurb unit reportedly arrived with a non-working wireless network card despite driver attempts.

  • The 1920x1200 "2K" description is clarified as closer to the 1080P category than true 2560x1440.

  • The $700 price is viewed as less compelling compared with a prior purchase price of $590 for the same model.

This is 2K isn't it?
Not really. 2K typically refers to a 2560 x 1440 resolution screen. But that's in 16:9 aspect ratio and there's very few 16:9 1440P laptops. They're usually 16:10 which is 2560 X 1600. This is a 1920 x 1200 screen in a 16:10 aspect ratio. So this is a better described as being in the 1080P camp.

Am I missing something about this deal? I know the build quality isn't great, but 32gb, 1tb, arc 140v, 100% srgb, 120hz, touch, 3.4 lbs all seems pretty hard to beat for $700 these days.
This is definitely an impressive laptop for the price. For regular use, it's more than fine. The display is pretty damn good. It has VRR down to 30Hz, so that 140V iGPU, while not the most powerful iGPU, is still going to give you a smooth visual. It trades blows pretty well with a 780m that you would see in an ASUS ROG Ally, Ally X, LeGo S. Granted, 1200p at 16" is going to show a little more imperfections than a 7" screen will, but still.... Plus it uses a delightfully simple 65W charger. No heavy brick to carry around. Yeah, pretty damn nice.

Can you do light gaming on it ?
Depends on what you want to do but I would say yes. I have a very similar Aspire, same basic laptop but 14" and a Ultra 7 258V (which is about 5-8% slower than the U9 288V). I can play most modern-ish AAA games at modest resolutions and emulate Switch in "docked" mode (higher resolution than "handheld") without any problem.

No one said it was. LOL....

FYI, "Intel Core Ultra processors feature a dedicated three-tier AI engine (CPU, GPU, and NPU) delivering up to over 100 total TOPS of AI compute (power)"...and the also have Intel Arc Graphics. Only you seem to be confusing those concepts.

I don't see 120Hz and touch screen mentioned on the eBay listing. Am I missing something?

I do not have this laptop. They do provide a 65W charger. I'm not saying it's compact. Just that you could use any random 65W charger.

2K is definitely 1080p 1440p is closer to 3K.

2K resolution is a generic term for display devices or content having a horizontal resolution of approximately 2,000 pixels. In the movie projection industry, Digital Cinema Initiatives is the dominant standard for 2K output and defines a 2K format with a resolution of 2048 × 1080.

When the laptop arrived, the wireless network card did not work. I downloaded drivers from the acer site and unzipped the contents to a usb drive... no luck. It still has a warranty, so I hope they still have some to replace it with.

Now in my daughter's hands for a week, she is very happy with this machine. Semi-matte screen is touch responsive, crisp and plenty bright in her opinion. Everything she has thrown at it for gaming has been fast, and hasn't even gotten the fan running audibly. She doesn't play any intense AAA games, but she has a few that worked up her previous machine, also without a dedicated graphics card, and this computer runs circles around it. Relatively small usb-c charger, but still a typical PC brick style.

For the person that said not much AI with 32gb of ram, my work has plenty of devs doing local AI work on 24gb and 32gb machines. For serious work we're not doing stuff locally anyway, but you can do quite a lot of ML and local AI that non-devs are going to be doing over the next few years on 32gb. If you want more, look at $1500+ with non soldered ram, or drop $4000-6000 on powerhouse laptops like we do for 128gb laptops. Those are in a completely different league in budget and performance than this deal.
