Community Reviews
This Tapo 2K outdoor pan and tilt floodlight camera stands out for easy setup, strong image quality, and a solid app experience, with no subscription needed to record and watch video. The solar setup can recharge fast in direct sun, and the camera can do 24,7 recording or motion based capture depending on setup. The main tradeoffs are battery and solar limits, which can mean slower pan movement and less reliable person detection than a wired camera. The 25 percent Amazon Visa back also makes the price more attractive.
Common Questions (5)
Yes, it does have 24/7 recording, but it also can run in a motion-based mode with continuous snapshots at set intervals. The included 6W solar panel is not enough to sustain true continuous recording for long, so motion/snapshot recording is the practical setup for solar use.
It has been reported to work well, with excellent image quality, a strong microphone, and an easy install process. The app is also described as easy to use, and several Tapo models have held up well over multiple years without subscriptions for recording.
Detection can miss some people, with one report estimating about 60-75% detection in a front yard. The solar version uses PIR sensing rather than constant AI video detection, so it is better suited to battery-saving motion alerts than near-100% person detection.
Not reliably with the included 6W panel. The solar setup is intended to keep the battery topped up for motion-triggered recording and snapshots, while continuous recording would drain the battery too quickly.
No, it is 25% back on the Amazon Visa as points, not an immediate checkout discount. That back-end credit is what makes the deal especially attractive.

it detects maybe 60-75% of people in my front yard. because it's solar, it uses PIR (passive infrared) instead of constant AI video detection
stick to a wired cam if you care about detecting people with near 100% accuracy

The solar has nothing to due with the limitations. Its the battery. Can't record 24/7 as the battery would be dead. Although tapo is getting closer with things like 24/7 capture options. I have the older tapo solar cams and it's pretty accurate gets about 90% detection correct. Vs my wired floored tapo cam does have a high rate of good detection, its also plagued with false detection.
My only complain with Tapo is that going thru warranty is a bit pain. They try everything they can not to replace a defected/broken item. Also, You have to pay to ship your defect item for them to check and send you a free replacement.
