Yes! I have had one for years and it's about comparable to an entry-level Squier/Epiphone guitar from the likes of Fender/Gibson.

Monoprice electric guitars have had many other threads here on Slickdeals before if you'd like to refer to them as well.

They also have other electric guitars styles on sale that are cheaper, if you'd like. This one is a semi-hollow body (which some consider a premium feature) vs a traditional fully wood body electric guitar

They're decent from what I hear. A semi-hollow body like the one in this post isn't the most common first guitar. If you want something more standard, they also have this on sale for a great price. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=610192

I have this and, when I bought it, came playable out of the box. It has been fine ever since (bought it cheaper).

At this price, I would personally go for the charcoal one (which is $129 right now)

I just ordered a few of these Monoprice guitars. The charcoal version of this one is cheaper and I got the "DLX Plus" versions of the Strat and Telecaster. The Strat and Tele were perfect out of the box, but this one had a lot of quality control issues requiring more than just basic set up. The biggest one for me was lifted frets causing a buzz that I couldn't get rid of through neck or bridge adjustment. It may be a bit of a crapshoot as to whether you get a good one but I'd say if you're learning this would likely discourage you and it would serve you better to just get the cheapest guitar from a music store that has been set up already.

Recently purchased this as a cheapie to keep at work.
I haven't plugged it in yet but I like the way it plays and it sounds pretty good.
However, there is fret buzzing. The finish was terrible outside of the box; I wonder if the guitar was used. The wires were clearly showing through the sound hole.
For the price I'm not too upset, it does play and sound pretty good, but the finish was surprisingly bad.

The finish was really bad on mine as well. It looks like someone tried to turn a messed up grey one into a black one by adding a layer of black paint, but you can still see a slight hint of the grey underneath, so it's neither one or the other. There are also visible splotches of paint that look like it dripped on it. I thought they were smudges at first but it's in the paint.

I also bought the charcoal color for $130. My finish is nearly perfect, but I have frets that are not properly seated (gap between the bottom of the fret and the fret board)

I think this would be a frustrating play experience as a first guitar. Without reworking and seating the frets properly you'd likely not know that the fret buzz is abnormal, or you'd adjust the action so high it would be unpleasant to play. I'll fix it and keep it.

For a first guitar get an inexpensive (e.g. Yamaha), set up from a local shop.

An electric guitar deal i got a couple years back from Monoprice came with a ding on it from shipping. Monoprice offered to take it back or let me keep it and refund half my purchase price. I kept it and it has been great to play on!

They do make a stop bar tailpiece tremolo for guitars of this style in case you were looking for it. I'd also recommend a roller saddle so you don't bind up the strings on the whammy if you go that route. I bought a Glarry semi-hollow tele and put a fake Bigsby on it. Totally raised the playability.

Personally I would pay a bit more and get a brand like Yamaha or Cort. Cort manufactures guitars for many of the other big brands, so if you buy the Cort brand you're basically bypassing the markup associated with big brands. As a beginner you really don't want to be dealing with fret or nut issues and those are more likely to happen with ultra cheap guitars like monoprice. I love monoprice for electronics though.
