Do you still have to watch for lower watt vid cards in the newer laptops? Or most higher end ones full wattage?

Desktop replacement laptops (thick) will have higher wattage video cards. The thinner laptops will have the lower watt video cards. It is mainly a bios setting capping the wattage. Most laptops will thermal throttle either way. You will see at time a 5080 running same FPS at 5070 ti once you hit that thermal throttle.

Alienware previously had higher wattage set and bigger power supply to push that card harder. This one comes with a 330W power supply so it will be of the higher wattage variety.

Sure, but keep in mind it's a brick lol. I usually prefer the slimmer gaming laptops from Asus, like the G16 (the M16 was the goat, but no longer offered).

5.5 lbs isn't a brick for a 16" laptop unless you are trying to compare it to macbooks or something. Plenty of gaming laptops at this size push into the low to mid 6s lol.

I think it's also the charging brick. Not sure how big this thing is but my old 5090 laptop charging brick def felt like it was 1.5 lbs on its own and you will need to bring it if you are not at home

Yeah, but again will be the same regardless for a gaming laptop in this range. Unfortunate, I really wish they would list laptop weight, charger weight.

Hoping USB C 240W becomes good enough before my next gaming laptop that I can just go that route for a 70 class machine since those are (relatively) tiny/small and universal. Only thing I hate about my Lenovo is the nonsense they did with USBC charging on it. 100 Watt minimum and maximum basically, but more importantly while on that charging it puts the Processor on low power mode even though 100 watts is plenty to run the CPU at full speed without draining the battery at all unless you also fire up a game. Basically I can't do my work desk with USBC for power and everything else without also severely reducing my laptops speed :/

Yes. They did away with the Max Q name so they are all one model unfortunately. Now you have to check wattage to determine if it's full performance model. If it's a super slim laptop it's likely a lower wattage gpu because slim laptop has worse thermals and can't handle the extra heat generated from the full wattage.

Recently (from Woot/SD here) picked up a X16 Aero (Gigabyte) 370HX/5070. Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on high/ultra, full resolution, DLSS is nice, and running @/~170FPS and a whopping 69-71C on the GPU. Last laptop was a Legion 16ACH6, I'll never do that again, fell back to a Dell 7577 (think that's right, 1060MaxQ) and had the realization, lower power, less heat, less heat, less death. This is good. Time will tell.

No kidding. I was running 64GB with 6TB in nvme storage. Then I tried to price something similar that was recent.
