The Speedwoofer 12S is a large ported 12 inch sub that stands out for deep, visceral bass and strong home theater output. It is repeatedly described as a monster that can shake a room, with low end rumble, adjustable settings, and performance that compares favorably with pricier subs like the SVS PB2000 Pro. The main tradeoff is size, since it needs real floor space and is a blind buy with a return cost if it does not fit or suit the room. Sale pricing around $799, with occasional drops near $719 or extra PowerBuy savings, makes the value angle especially strong.

  • Home theater fans in large open rooms, because the 12S delivers strong sub-20Hz extension and room-shaking output for movie rumbles.

  • Listeners upgrading from smaller 10-inch subs, because the 12S adds a night-and-day jump in low-end rumble and impact.

  • Buyers who want a ported sub with strong value, because it compares favorably with pricier models while costing less.

  • Shoppers who can fit a large cabinet, because the enclosure is big and the sub performs best when the space can accommodate it.

  • Apartment or bedroom setups with tight space, because the enclosure is large and can be hard to place or move.

  • Buyers who need a compact subwoofer, because the cabinet is much larger than smaller 10-inch alternatives.

  • Shoppers who want easy returns after a blind buy, because returning it costs $150 or only 80% of the money comes back.

  • People prioritizing the smallest footprint over maximum low-bass impact, because two smaller subs can give smoother bass while the 12S is chosen for visceral extension.

I got this sub a few months ago, replacing a ~$200 Monoprice 12".

It's quite a bit larger despite the same driver size, but the difference in sound is insane. This sub makes my living room sound like a high quality movie theater.

Again, simple physics of the bigger enclosure at work. You would have gotten similar results with an SVS PB2000 Pro which is similarly sized as the 12S. What sets the RSL apart is sheer bang for the buck: $800 on sale, $885 regular price, vs the SVS at $1200. Enjoy!

Interested. I don't know if I want a sub that big though.
FWIW, I have the 10S MkII. I love it. It depends on your use case and sound profile you're looking for. I have it in my home office, paired with a set of KEF Q Concerto Meta's and it shakes the room without too much effort and sounds incredible. I've had several powered subs and this is one of the best from a build / quality / sound profile for the money.

Speak of the 10e.Go back and look at those post & see how often people claim that "smaller" sub is supposed to be so much better than "larger" subs!
Why..?

this or TWO RSL 10e...
Two subs = more even bass everywhere in the room, which is important IF you often have large viewing parties, not that important if it's just 1-2 people sitting dead center in front of the screen. However, you do lose the superior sub-20Hz extension and output of the 12S, which is where the "felt" (VISCERAL) bass lies in action movies---all those rumbles and growls that the 10" woofer and smaller cabinet of the 10e/10s can't quite produce---both for atmospherics and sheer impact. The only way to get both bass evenness and sub-bass wow effects is to have two of the 12S but most people don't have the budget nor WAF to do that, so you have to choose which one is more important for YOU.

Ultimately, subwoofers need some size if they're going to perform well. My only real beef is that I feel like they could have squeezed in a 15" woofer in that envelope.
Yes, there is no way around the laws of physics, despite what our resident salesmen love to claim. And a 15" woofer would require an even bigger enclosure---for example, the Hsu VTF-3 measures 25" x 17.3" x 24" HWD, vs 22.3 x 19 x 22" HWD for this RSL 12S.

The only time you can get a smaller cabinet with a 15" woofer is if you go sealed: for example, the Hsu ULS15 is 19 x 18 x 19.5" HWD. Sealed has its own limitations, but the performance gap vs ported does narrow as you get into bigger and bigger woofer sizes, e.g. the 18" and 21" sealed subs from PSA: https://www.powersoundaudio.com/c...ild=Sealed

Unfortunately there's a price premium with those PSA sealed subs, but dollar for dollar they crush the performance of similar priced SVS sealed subs. In the same way, that $1100 Hsu ULS15 crushes the $1300 SVS SB3000 (13" woofer, 15.6 x 15.2 x 16.8" HWD).

Simple physics exposes and obliterates all these ludicrous sales gimmicks/lies thrown about on forums like this, all day long. Not to mention price-to-performance, a metric that the sales hacks NEVER want consumers to ever think about, so they love to muddy the waters with psychobabble about "b-b-but that's my experience/opinion" --- desperate salesmen gotta pay the rent, lol.

Because all these claims about the laws of physics apparently doesn't apply to the RSL10e!

Here you go, just one example!

Oh. Must be a conversation here I'm scrolling past. I don't see claims about physics. I simply responded to the guy who said subs have to be big to be good by saying there are plenty of great subs that are smaller. There are great large subs and great small subs. That size doesn't matter... design (including amplifier and crossover), does. As do, of course, implementation in the room.

At first I thought you were referring to me. Unless I'm misunderstanding. Regardless, no interest in reading about the 10e. Had one for 29 days.

"Why," you ask? Because you want what you want, which is raw, meaty sub-bass oomph---instead of being all bent out of shape by a trivial couple inches extra here and there like some prissy people.

Remember: life is short...go for it!

Just a reminder for page 4 of this thread xD... This is a great subwoofer for the price, it compares favorably to subs $1000+.

Just make sure to measure your space before buying because it has a very large enclosure.

Correct --- and, just a note here that it only has a "very large enclosure" relative to teeny tiny girly subs like the REL T5/x (which costs the same $800).

Otherwise it's the exact same ballpark size as similar-performance-level competitors' 12 inch ported subs e.g. SVS PB2000 Pro or Hsu VTF-2.

No one is still reading this mess but this is an important point. You can't sample these so it's a blind buy already, but you can at least make sure it's going to fit. Because if it doesn't, or they aren't what you were hoping, you only get 80% of your money back from RSL.

I would agree and add to this.
The more important point imo is because of science.
How well you can properly implement this in an environment is crucial for optimal performance.
In general, bigger footprint means less versatility.

TBH if this is a blind buy, anything in this price range and higher are great.
If this is in your price range & fits, you won't be disappointed ime.

Hilarious how all this concern-trolling about enclosure size was completely absent when I shared the deal on the only slightly-smaller SVS PB1000 Pro just a month ago. Now why is that? SVS employees in the house? LOL
