This GarveeHome 12,000 BTU mini split is mainly being discussed as a budget DIY cooling option with strong output and WiFi on some versions. The unit is described as pumping out a lot of cold air, and the included refrigerant and install process are said to be manageable for handy owners, though vacuuming the lines is required and extra tools can add $200 to $300. Main cautions center on refrigerant confusion, with R32 and R454B both mentioned, plus reports of WiFi pairing trouble, a loud outdoor fan, leaking, and weak customer support.

  • Buyers planning a long wire run, because 12/2 wiring can work up to about 18K BTU on some installs.

  • Shoppers comfortable with newer refrigerants, because R32 is widely available and avoids the refill complexity of mixed refrigerants.

  • DIY homeowners with basic handyman skills, because the lineset can be cut, flared, vacuumed, and charged without professional installation.

  • Homeowners wanting strong cooling and dehumidification, because it can pump out a lot of cold air and keep a dehumidifier from kicking on.

  • Shoppers who want a refrigerant that is easy to top off after a leak, because mixed R454B is harder to refill correctly.

  • Buyers who want simple Wi‑Fi setup, because pairing mode can be hard to enter and the unit may not connect.

  • Homeowners who need quiet outdoor operation, because the outdoor fan can be loud.

  • Installers expecting a clean, trouble-free mount, because the hanging bracket can be short and the indoor unit can leak.

Fyi I bought the 22 seer version of this unit for the same price. Not sure if im missing something but seems like something to consider. I've been running this for about a month and works great. https://a.co/d/0iBTvK2n

There are 3 different "Garvee" stores on Amazon, and neither the GarveeHome or GarveeLife (which these FP deals all are) seem to actually match the Garvee website. The websites for Home and Life and both horrifically scammy looking, and neither works.

That and none of the Garvee ACs that have hit the FP in the past month had ANY reviews before showing up here. Zero.

Does this not bother anybody or throw up any red flags?

Normally I expect to see more chatter about that sort of thing in the forums, but from what I've seen so far... nothing?
Am I missing something?
Most people accept that the majority Mini split brands are fly by night off brands that just relabel units from midea, gree or aux (which i think this one is). For the price, I think people know what they're getting into. also there are definitely "tiers" of these off brands though. pioneer, tosot are the "branded" ones lol. garvee, yita, and the other ones that just randomly pop up on amazon are considered lower. but hey, people still get many years of service out of them if installed correctly.

I have a long run, maybe 75 feet, from panel to where the mini-split will be. Trying to keep wire cost down.

The link has a few models available, how big a unit I can I go using 12/2 or 12/3 wire? Trying to keep from needing to step up to 10/2 or 10/3 wire, because cost jumps significantly for larger wire size on long runs.
115V or 240V unit, you still use 12/2, NOT 12/3 wire. About 80 feet, you could use 12/2 wire up to 18K BTU mini split AC. 12/2 wire could carry 2400 watt for 120V, 4800 watt for 240V. The 18K BTU 240V unit use under 1800 watt. 12K BTU unit use less than 1200 watt.

My 3rd Mini Split have to run 70 feet around my house. I'm using the "outdoor extension cord 12 gauge" for cheaper cost. It runs just fine. I just saw 100 feet extension cord outdoor 12 gauge sale $63 here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F3CL3...F0aWM&th=1

If you have a little handyman skill, it is easy to install one yourself. Vacuum is the most easy step. The refrigerant gas is come with the AC outdoor unit. All you have to do is vacuum, then release the refrigerant. Watch this video show you how to vacuum and release refrigerant:

The USA is moronic with stuff like this. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is kicking our ass on implementing renewable energy and new technologies. For example, air to water heat pumps that use propane as the refrigerant.
We use propane as refrigerant but in small quantity because our regulations here, UK less of an issue due their bias are different

Just installed this model with wifi. Pretty easy to do and ive never ran any electrical in my life for a home. Have done car audio which is about the same idea. Biggest thing was cutting the lineset and flaring making sure you correctly flared but that wasn't even any issue with nylog blue. Cutting the 3 inch hole through the house was probably the scariest part. Ran 12/2 to a 20amp breaker while the main was shut off. Took me 3 days as I was accomplishing this task between work.

If I had to do it again, the next time will be much easier. Vacuuming wasn't difficult. Materials and extra tools cost 200-300 more so do account for that unless you go rent a pump at an auto store. Will need the r410 fittings though to vacuum the outdoor unit.
