This GarveeHome 12,000 BTU mini split is mainly being discussed as a budget DIY cooling option with strong output and WiFi on some versions. The unit is described as pumping out a lot of cold air, and the included refrigerant and install process are said to be manageable for handy owners, though vacuuming the lines is required and extra tools can add $200 to $300. Main cautions center on refrigerant confusion, with R32 and R454B both mentioned, plus reports of WiFi pairing trouble, a loud outdoor fan, leaking, and weak customer support.

Common Questions (4)

  • The linked Amazon unit is reported as using R454B, while another comment says the deal post's unit is R32 and not R410A. R454B is a blended refrigerant that must be refilled in liquid form to preserve the mix, so a leak is less straightforward to top off than with a single-component refrigerant.

  • For these mini splits, commenters recommend checking the manual, but 12/2 wire is reported as sufficient for some 240V installs on a 20A breaker and can work up to about 18K BTU on longer runs. For a 12K BTU unit, reported draw is under 1200W, while 18K BTU 240V is under 1800W.

  • Yes, it can be DIY-installed if you have basic handyman skills, but the lineset must be cut and flared, the system vacuumed, and the refrigerant released from the outdoor unit. Extra tools and materials can add about $200-$300, and one install also required R410 fittings for vacuuming the outdoor unit.

  • The unit can cool strongly, but Wi‑Fi pairing may be finicky: one installed unit reportedly would not enter pairing mode. That means the cooling function can be fine even if app setup is frustrating.

R32 is widely available. 454b is what I would avoid
454B needs to be refilled in liquid form to keep the R32 and R1234yf ratio the same. R1234yf is the same stuff in new car AC. Leave it to federal environmental regulations and Honeywell screw up this when R-32 refrigerant is about 35 years old and widely used already in Europe and Asian.

R-32 (68.9%): Provides the thermal capacity and high pressure.
R-1234yf (31.1%): Lowers the overall Global Warming Potential (GWP) to 466

People are just dumb with mini splits
Mini-splits are for the above-average Joe, let them install a window AC or hire an over price installer.

Does anyone know what the dehumidification capacity is on this unit? I can't find it listed anywhere.
Maybe it in the manual, and someone who has this can weigh in?
I can't tell you the specs, but it's quite a lot. Our in-home dehumidifier (located on an open-floor-plan 1500 sq ft 1st floor) rarely kicks on when this is going (it's also located on the same floor but a few rooms over). Patio constantly has a good amount of puddled water from the mini-split draining.

Picked up a SEER 20 otherwise identical unit for 330 shipped in CA ordering from mainland site (arrived in like 5 days). Warranty isn't valid if you DIY install so IMO shouldn't matter where you buy it / worth saving $100 ordering from somewhere else. Gifted/installed 2 for family and they were SHOCKED I only paid 660.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm in S. FL, so this spec is very important to me. I'll contact Garvee, and see what they know. Some of these middlemen sellers don't actually know all the specs on the products they sell, and have to contact the manufacturer.

Sometime I just don't understand on SD website. I posted "Albott 12K BTU 115V Mini Split AC $400", which is $41 cheaper than this Garvee AC. But nobody like. So people like to pay more for bad built quality?

If Garvee brand is good quality, I don't mind. But Garvee AC give me many problem than my other 2 brand "Yitahome and Turbro". Right now, my indoor unit Garvee is leaking. But I don't why. Because I level it correctly, just like my other 2 brand AC. And Garvee customer is BAD. They're not going to answer your problems.

Garvee outdoor unit fan is LOUD. Listen to yourself here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1...RExsZ/view

Garvee hanging bracket is 1 INCH SHORT than indoor unit:

The USA is moronic with stuff like this. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is kicking our ass on implementing renewable energy and new technologies. For example, air to water heat pumps that use propane as the refrigerant.

Is it possible to install the indoor part on a 2nd floor while having the outdoor part on the 1st floor? Is that too long of a distance to run the pipe?

Just fwiw if you can do with lower BTUs, you can get the 9k version with 24 SEER2 rating and heat pump functionality for $300. https://a.co/d/00pcKljm
What am I missing here? That link says it's 19 SEER for the 9000.

There are 3 different "Garvee" stores on Amazon, and neither the GarveeHome or GarveeLife (which these FP deals all are) seem to actually match the Garvee website. The websites for Home and Life and both horrifically scammy looking, and neither works.

That and none of the Garvee ACs that have hit the FP in the past month had ANY reviews before showing up here. Zero.

Does this not bother anybody or throw up any red flags?

Normally I expect to see more chatter about that sort of thing in the forums, but from what I've seen so far... nothing?
Am I missing something?

I have a long run, maybe 75 feet, from panel to where the mini-split will be. Trying to keep wire cost down.

The link has a few models available, how big a unit I can I go using 12/2 or 12/3 wire? Trying to keep from needing to step up to 10/2 or 10/3 wire, because cost jumps significantly for larger wire size on long runs.

My suggestion is to check the manual. It will heavily depend on the HVAC model. I'm running one of my 240V mini splits with 12/2 wire (20 amp breaker) as per the manual.

Thanks, I currently have a 240V mini split with 12/2 wire as well, but it is about a 40 foot wire run.

Want to install a second mini split farther away, like 70-80 feet, and typically I like to "size up" on long wire runs of over 50 feet. But 10/2 wire is really expensive and harder to run due to thickness. I'll see if I can download some of the install manuals, and look at sizing charts for long wire runs. A long run of 10 gauge wire, disconnect box, conduit, etc. costs more than the actual mini split.
