This GarveeHome 12,000 BTU mini split is mainly being discussed as a budget DIY cooling option with strong output and WiFi on some versions. The unit is described as pumping out a lot of cold air, and the included refrigerant and install process are said to be manageable for handy owners, though vacuuming the lines is required and extra tools can add $200 to $300. Main cautions center on refrigerant confusion, with R32 and R454B both mentioned, plus reports of WiFi pairing trouble, a loud outdoor fan, leaking, and weak customer support.
Common Questions (4)
The linked Amazon unit is reported as using R454B, while another comment says the deal post's unit is R32 and not R410A. R454B is a blended refrigerant that must be refilled in liquid form to preserve the mix, so a leak is less straightforward to top off than with a single-component refrigerant.
For these mini splits, commenters recommend checking the manual, but 12/2 wire is reported as sufficient for some 240V installs on a 20A breaker and can work up to about 18K BTU on longer runs. For a 12K BTU unit, reported draw is under 1200W, while 18K BTU 240V is under 1800W.
Yes, it can be DIY-installed if you have basic handyman skills, but the lineset must be cut and flared, the system vacuumed, and the refrigerant released from the outdoor unit. Extra tools and materials can add about $200-$300, and one install also required R410 fittings for vacuuming the outdoor unit.
The unit can cool strongly, but Wi‑Fi pairing may be finicky: one installed unit reportedly would not enter pairing mode. That means the cooling function can be fine even if app setup is frustrating.

That and none of the Garvee ACs that have hit the FP in the past month had ANY reviews before showing up here. Zero.
Does this not bother anybody or throw up any red flags?
Normally I expect to see more chatter about that sort of thing in the forums, but from what I've seen so far... nothing?
Am I missing something?
The link has a few models available, how big a unit I can I go using 12/2 or 12/3 wire? Trying to keep from needing to step up to 10/2 or 10/3 wire, because cost jumps significantly for larger wire size on long runs.
My 3rd Mini Split have to run 70 feet around my house. I'm using the "outdoor extension cord 12 gauge" for cheaper cost. It runs just fine. I just saw 100 feet extension cord outdoor 12 gauge sale $63 here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F3CL3...F0aWM

The USA is moronic with stuff like this. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is kicking our ass on implementing renewable energy and new technologies. For example, air to water heat pumps that use propane as the refrigerant.
If I had to do it again, the next time will be much easier. Vacuuming wasn't difficult. Materials and extra tools cost 200-300 more so do account for that unless you go rent a pump at an auto store. Will need the r410 fittings though to vacuum the outdoor unit.
