ASUS RT-BE59 is a budget WiFi 7 router that looks strongest as a step up from older ASUS WiFi 5 gear, especially for AiMesh setups and faster 5 GHz performance. The 3x3 5 GHz radio and ASUS support history make it appealing for homes that want a newer backbone and ongoing firmware updates. The big limitation is that it has no 6 GHz band, so the WiFi 7 upside is mostly latency and snappier browsing rather than big speed gains. Its benefits also depend on having WiFi 7 capable devices, and coverage through walls still looks limited.

 • The router can feel snappier because WiFi 7 mainly improves time to first byte rather than total throughput.

 • The router can support an Ethernet-backbone AI Mesh setup when multiple units are used together.

 • The router may deliver a noticeable improvement in 5GHz speeds compared with older T-Mobile ASUS models.

 • The router can be a practical upgrade path when older ASUS models are end-of-life for firmware support.

 • The router lacks a 6 GHz band, which limits compatibility with 6E-style use cases.

 • The router may not provide big real-world speed gains because many clients use 2x2 radios and the 5GHz capacity increase is limited.

 • The router can underperform for coverage because 5GHz may not reach farther rooms on the first floor.

 • The router has limited user review coverage, and Amazon feedback appears less positive than expected.

ok, should I continue to wait or buy a router like this. This is wifi 7.

Currently I'm using my trusted many year long relationship with my ASUS RT-AC68U. I picked up 3 of them many years ago from t-mobile sale on them. It is only wifi 5. It is mesh device, but I really only use one of them, but a few years ago set it up for mesh.

My spectrum speed is 50gb ... everything I do works on it, and I do put latest updates on it.

What do you guys suggest, wait another year, or jump in, will I notice a differance. I live a lone. I do look at routers every few years, but as long as my setup still works (so stayed with what works.). Do you guys think in tech years, I'm a caveman using wifi 5 ... and the asus RT-AC68U. .... should I upgrade or stay in my CAVE. Smilie
I love my AC68U(from T-Mobile) as well and used it for years! Remember I got it like 20 bucks. It's really solid and reliable for years, never gives me any trouble(I have a 3600SF 2-story house and it covers all, even the big backyard, I have no need for mesh). I am running about various 40 devices at home, and I have a gig-bit internet(I am sure you mean yours 500mbps instead of 50GB).

Still recently, I couldn't resist the temptation and upgrade to a BE58U(similar to this one but supports Merlin). Practically I do NOT see huge difference in network performance except feeling better. But thinking about AC68U has been 10 years, and it's time to move on and have it as a backup now.

I have the same ASUS routers. I upgraded the primary router to a newer model since the AC68U is no longer supported, so no security patches.

Before buying an ASUS WI-FI 7 router, read this: https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/s/N2ncaa2qEW
thanks for the link, I did read it, so will stay where I am for a while more. My internet connection is 50 Mb's ... not 50 GB's.

. And I pay 25 dollars a month for internet service (spectrum internet) . I'm very causal user. Everything is speedy for what I am doing. I could easily buy this but if it has bugs, and not many user reviews (only 25 amazon reviews and many from VINE members who get product for FREE). I'll pass for another year.

I just checked for updates to my asus, and it has a firmware update, updating it now, so my older asus (RT-AC68U) wifi 5 still seems to be supported (I guess).

I did just spent a few hours researching this device. Hardly ANY user reviews on it. Amazon has total of 25 reviews and lots of VINE reviews, best buy no reviews, microcenter no reviews, new egg no reviews.
Youtube has a couple of BE 58 asus pro's reviewing it.
Amazon reviews don't seem that positive to me. What do you more knowledgable guys think?
seems like good price ... 95 dollars. new.
maybe some of you guys will really like this router and recommend it and own it.
This thing just came out. That's why there aren't many reviews on it. I haven't had any problems with ASUS before.

I've been using Asus routers for years and currently have an AI Mesh system using the RT-AX86U and RT-AX68U as a node..flawless performance and stability with my 500 mbps Xfinity service. I'm also a long time member of the SNB community where there are countless resources for connectivity. https://www.snbforums.com/ Entering this model in the search window yields nothing; the newer BE98 has numerous posts. While I'm not a WiFi geek, from what knowledge I have WiFi 7 isn't as useful as WiFi 6, but its entirely up to you

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have been using an ASUS XT8 mesh system (WiFI 6) for over 5 years and it's still working pretty good for me (300mbps internet). I had been thinking about upgrading to WiFI 7 earlier in the year, but reconsidered after seeing some issues with ASUS WiFI 7 routers. I like ASUS because they don't charge subscription fees for security features... but if their WiFi 7 products don't work well, I may have to try another brand when I need to upgrade to WiFi 7. I only have 2 WiFi 7 devices right now and they work fine on WiFi 6 (devices are cell phone and a laptop), so there's no rush to upgrade to WiFI 7.

Another thing I like about ASUS is they support their routers for quite a while. Your router's firmware update is from May of this year... BTW, the RT-AC68U is on the "end of life" list, check here: https://www.asus.com/event/network/eol-product/ So that means ASUS won't be providing firmware updates for the RT-AC68U in the future. According to their website this may be the last firmware update for RT-AC68U: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/...desk_bios/ - "This model was end of its life, and its firmware, utility, website, and manual will no longer be updated. For more details, please refer to https://www.asus.com/event/network/eol-product/" Considering RT-AC68U was released in around 2013, 13 years is a long time for firmware updates.

Maybe instead of WiFi 7 you could consider upgrading to a WiFi 6 product. Good luck

Thanks guys for suggesting I hold off on the Asus wifi 7 routers, at the moment. So if you guys don't mine suggesting a router that would be good and at a good sale price, that you do recommend.
TropicalB recommended Asus XT8 (wifi 6), he has used for about 5 years and works for him).

Jontalk likes Asus products like me, and suggested a few newer routers than the asus model I currently am using.

Suggestions , please, and I will research them. Glad I'm in this room, and chatting with you guys.

p.s. Maybe somewhere around 100 dollars , link to product and sale price. I'll research it and buy it today if it clicks with me. The asus in this thread is on sale for 95 dollars, that is around price I'm looking to buy at. Again, I'm casual, 50Mb connection, I live alone, not a gamer (not hard core anymore).

The improvement you will see will be in latency, not throughput. What this means is that it will feel snappier when you load a page, because the time to first byte is faster. There will be no improvement in throughput i.e. the total time to load a big page or download a file, because you have a lower speed connection (50MB). Is it worth it? Only you get to decide how much that snappiness means to you. I upgraded my old Tmobile Asus to an AX5400 a couple years ago and I really liked the improvement.

weird.
The model you posted Linksys LN1301 Tri-Band AX4200, I did buy last year from Amazon, I haven't even opened it yet. I also bought it for 20 dollars (I bought 2 of them... completely forgot, when I went to that page on amazon ... it said I bought 2 of them) . I will look around for it , and try it out. Thanks. forgot about that. My Asus was still getting updates, so I put it off. And this wifi 7 router looked interesting, so I came into this room.
Thanks guys for your suggestions. Much appreciated.
So I will go from wifi 5 to wifi 6 ... good enough for me. Glad I came into this room.

It totally depends on what you use your network for. I had the ASUS T-Mobile setup with 2 of them meshed and they worked great. Upgraded a few years ago to WIFI 6 and saw a drastic difference. But that was only because I send large files (1 GB+) across my network from device to device. With my new setup I didn't see much difference with just streaming on my devices or coverage in the house. I still needed to mesh to get the same coverage as with the 2 T-Mobiles. Actually meshed a T-Mobile with my new WIFI 6 router. So I would say if you are just streaming you won't see much of a difference but it if you transfer files you will see a dramatic improvement.

another question i would ask is, do you have any devices that would utilize wifi 7? my phone, printer, AC, dehumidifier, ceiling fan, ipad are all wifi 4 thru 6.

How many devices do you have? What kind of devices do you have? I have an Asus rt ax58u and I have 18-25 devices depending on what's on at the time and I would say this is probably the limit for this router for this specific WiFi 6 router. I upgraded a couple of our laptops to intel ax200 cards to take advantage of WiFi 6 on 2.4ghz. We often do zoom conference calls at the same time on multiple devices, I'm just sharing that as an example, Wi-Fi 7 is great if you have Wi-Fi 7 capable hardware. But if you're running a lot of older devices that aren't even Wi-Fi 6 capable let alone Wi-Fi 7, you may not experience much of an improvement

So I've been looking at higher end asus WiFi 6 routers on the used market like the ax86u and the ax88u. Just waiting for a deal. I would say the BE59 is cheaper than those.

But the 2.4ghz is 2x2 and the 5ghz is 3x3. And that's not much of an upgrade over my current router. The others I'm looking at have double the capacity for multiple connections. Personally I'm more setup for WiFi 6 at this time than 7 anyways and having like 5 of every kinda smart device imaginable, I'm more interested in many devices having full access to the router than having to wait around because of limited connections. Unless WiFi 7 some how fixed that but from what I've seen from level1techs on YouTube, WiFi 7 is very hit or miss and has a lot of issues. I would personally be cautious on 7 for now.
