Keep in mind that if you're in the US and your AHJ (authority having jurisdiction) follows the NFPA 855 rules, these will exceed what you're allowed to have in any one location.

The rules are: 80kWh maximum total in a garage, 80kWh maximum total mounted on the outside of a building, 40kWh maximum total in a utility room or basement, 0kWh in the habitable spaces of a home.

There's some interpretation left up to your AHJ, though: Some might interpret these limits literally and say 80kWh is the max you can have on premises and only if you install it in a garage or on an outside wall. Other AHJ's, like California, allow you to maximize all 3 categories (bringing your total limit to 200kWh assuming you're using outdoor-capable batteries). In fact, you -might- be able to convince the AHJ to allow 280 kWh if you also have a standalone outbuilding to store another 80kWh of ESS.

NFPA 855 also requires there to be a minimum of 3ft separation between each ESS unit so these would occupy 15 feet of a garage wall. (80kWh total).

Finally, there are some active fire-suppression rules that go into effect once you exceed a certain amount of ESS but I no longer remember the threshold.

Battery storage continues to fall dramatically in price. I am so interested to see what consumer adoption of sodium batteries will bring, hopefully in a few years. I don't care if they weigh twice as much if they're cheap, durable, and safe.

Probably a stupid question, but what is the absolute benefit of these over 24 individual batteries aside from the additional cost of wiring.

Much easier time balancing batteries. Less maintanance and work overall. Less fuses. Less chances for things to break

That's why I went with flooded lead-acid in my basement for my backup battery system (with solar). Flood lead-acid are much safer and "dumber" (easier to service) than lithium. It was also cheaper at the time.
These are cheaper than that, even 6 years later.

Sodium batteries aren't going to be a better option for home energy storage than these lithium iron phosphates, as the usable voltage range for sodium is dramatically larger than lifepo4, necessitating dramatically more expensive busbars, cables, fuses, and inverters, all with lower energy density and no significant safety or durability improvements. Grid-scale storage is really where sodium will shine, but don't expect to see them in EVs or home storage any time soon.

Super good info and learned some things. To add onto what you said, if I'm not mistaken many utilities (especially if net meter feeding the grid for TOU arbitrage) and maybe even AHJ also require batteries to be UL certified which Eco-Worthy does not have. They try to skirt the rules by saying the cells themselves are UL certified but the laws actually say the entire system like inverters, BMS, etc all need to be UL certified as a single package.

Not that I have any interest in anything of this size thus just out of curiosity....if those sorts of limits exist in and on a home, what about an entirely different structure? Seems to me if someone wanted this much capacity or beyond, and likely a scale of solar to complement with all the trimmings, a separate structure would be the most ideal way to house it all due to simplicity, space, and to an extent the safety of the home. That's how I'd envision going about it at least. Have all that stuff in an improved (+climate controlled if necessary) shed just far enough away from the home to not be an immediate fire danger to house that stuff along with all the wiring and components it entails, then just run a feeder to the home's load center leaving everything normal and relatively simple there

I have these batteries and unless you have the equipment to receive/move them, and time to delve into amps, wire sizes, breakers, etc..., you'd be better off with 5KWH rack batteries despite of higher buying cost. Not only are these heavy at 300+ lbs, but they can output a lot of amps which means expensive/thicker wires and specialized narrow lugs, and bigger DC breakers. To get these into my walk-up basement I ended up having to get a powered stair climbing dolly, and thinking of building a mobile engine hoist to move these around my basement (the built-in wheels are useless).

Just under $100/kWh which is a decent deal, but just remember that these suckers are around 300 lbs each.

That said, its not a great deal as you can find individual smaller capacity batteries for the same or less per kWh
