Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a standout RPG with striking visuals, memorable characters, and a story that lingers long after the credits. The active parry and dodge combat gives fights a rewarding learning curve, and the exploration, progression, and level design are praised as polished and engaging. It can also be a lot of combat and traversal, and the story may feel uneven or too layered for some tastes. A strong pick for RPG fans who want a stylish, story driven adventure.
RPG fans who want a story-rich adventure, because the characters, story, and visuals are repeatedly praised as exceptional.
Players who enjoy active turn-based combat, because parrying and dodging create a rewarding learning curve and memorable fights.
Story-first players who prefer to lower difficulty, because the easiest setting lets them move through combat faster and spend less time on battles.
JRPG newcomers who usually bounce off the genre, because the battle system and enemy visibility make it easier to get hooked.
Players who want constant story momentum, because combat and exploration can take a lot of time away from the narrative.
Gamers who dislike turn-based combat or exploration-heavy pacing, because those systems can make the game feel sleepy and hard to continue.
Players who need a tightly focused story, because the narrative can feel large, layered, and uneven rather than consistently intimate.
Players who want a short, low-commitment campaign, because the main story can take around 60 hours before extra achievement cleanup.

I had started off on the regular difficulty but I got to one boss who kept kicking my ass and dialed it back to the easy difficulty (glad to see I'm not the only one). I've had more fun with it on easy, but I do wish there was another difficulty between easy and normal. Overall, I've really enjoyed the game, very unique story and world creation, and memorable characters. I got it on sale for PS5 for $40 and feel it's totally worth that price. For PC, I would personally rather buy from Steam or something to make sure the developers are getting their cut. They deserve it for this one.

Super unpopular take: I did not like this game. Everyone else does, apparently. It's a me issue. The combat and world exploration make me sleepy and not want to continue. I tried playing it again last week... Still doesn't do it for me. Sad, because the story, setting, characters and visuals seem to be quite excellent.
