I can only guess you need to get a new blade, sharpen the one you have, grease the bar, adjust the blade tension or clean out behind the cover. There is no way it should be cutting like that.
Community Reviews
This DeWalt 20V MAX 12 inch cordless chainsaw kit is best suited to light yard cleanup and branch trimming, with its lightweight build making it easy to carry through a pile of limbs. It can handle branches from about 1 inch up to 8 inches, and the 9Ah FlexVolt battery is reported to work well. The main drawback is oil leakage, especially when stored upright, which can require draining or careful side storage. Cutting speed also depends heavily on chain setup and maintenance.
Common Questions (3)
Yes, oil leakage is a recurring issue, especially when the saw is stored upright. Storing it on its side with the oil cap facing up can reduce leaks, but some owners still drain the oil after each use to avoid mess.
It can handle regular branch trimming and even larger cuts, with reports of 1"-8" branches and an 8-10" tree being cut successfully. It is not especially fast, and slow cutting can point to a dull or misinstalled chain, poor tension, or a dirty bar.
Yes, it works with larger batteries, and a 9Ah FlexVolt battery is reported to be great on this saw. A 5Ah battery can help a little compared with 3Ah packs, but it does not fully solve weak cutting performance if the chain or setup is the problem.

I had this specific chainsaw, FYI. I bought into the Dewalt ecosystem, so it was only natural. I returned it after one tree and decided I'd rather use my axe and bow saw than suffer through this POS.
Don't blame an entire energy source for your one individual tool being bad. Electric tools can be just as powerful or more than gas tools, and they get better every year. Maybe try a big boy 60 volt tool if you wanna do big boy work, instead of the 20 volt tools that are decades old now.

Still, that's dystopian. Lawn tools are far less contributors to any pollution compared to...pretty much anything. Politicians trying to justify their paychecks, yet again.

There isn't a single, good electric chainsaw. Just like there isn't a single, good electric lawnmower. I have a litany of electric tools. I have owned a litany of electric chainsaws and lawnmowers - of which I have returned them all. They're garbage. I had Dewalt's ~60V offerings. Those ones ran out of battery before I even felled a single tree. Yeah, 2" poplars it probably would cut through like butter. Anything those electric chainsaws are good for can be easier felled with an axe.
I had this one first before I returned it and tried 2 different 60v Dewalt chainsaws.
