Community Reviews
Milwaukee's M12 FUEL oscillating multi tool stands out for compact cutting power, especially in tight spaces and metal work. The kit price looks strong because it includes the charger and two 5.0 amp hour batteries, and the included blades and sanding accessories make it more complete than expected. The main knocks are vibration and sanding performance, with some comparing it less favorably on comfort and size than hoped. Battery retention on high vibration tools can also be finicky, though a simple tape shim fix is described. A solid compact setup if you want the batteries and charger bundled in.
Common Questions (5)
Yes. It was described as the best or near-best price seen in about a year, and a comparable purchase elsewhere cost $149 plus shipping for the tool with batteries but without the charger.
Yes. The batteries are included in the box, and the deal is specifically valued because it comes with two 5.0Ah batteries plus the charger, unlike tool-only purchases.
It cuts well but is weak for sanding. The tool is praised for cutting tasks, while sanding performance is repeatedly described as poor.
Not by much. One comparison found the M12 was only slightly different from the M18, with the main downside being a less comfortable handle, so it may not feel meaningfully smaller or lighter.
No. It's sold as a kit, so it is not hackable; the receipt should show the tool and battery line items as part of the bundle.

Mine also suck at sanding
I have this and I have these batteries, and I also have jigsaw, and a sawzall.
I'm one of the people that whenever I'm using one of the high vibration M12 tools the battery will constantly disconnect due to the cheap double clip system on each side of the batteries that's supposed to keep it locked in. Also the vibration wears at these clips, both of my only 2 year old 5.0 batteries have each lost a clip. This issue with the battery falling out particularly happens with the larger rectangle battery types.
The solution- you get some black electrical tape and you make shims about 1" tall, 1/2" inch wide, a fat 1/16" thick (adjust the thickness accordingly) you insert one behind each clip on each side of each battery. The batteries will stay firmly locked in and not vibrate around, they won't fall out and the clips won't wear away. Just takes a little bit of an extra squeeze on the sides to release the battery. The electrical tape is just the right material to be stiff but be passive to allow the release. After this we'll never have these issues again. You can do another single band of electrical tape around the front of the battery insertion part the further stop your battery from moving, but this is the main thing to do.
It's a very easy thing to do, I recommend doing it if you have the time and some electrical tape handy before the problem starts and you lose a clip.
