Just fyi that this has 4 usb ports but it realistically can only power one device. I had two 1A USB devices connected and one of the devices would constantly lose lower until I unplugged one of them.

That sounds defective. I have one of these and it can charge multiple devices at once, no problem.

The biggest downside is that the usb ports are on the bottom, so if you plug this into a standard outlet at shin level, it's a pain to plug the cords in because you can't see them. Both of my kids asked to switch to styles where the ports face forward instead, so now I use it in a spot where the cords can stay plugged in 24x7.

300J Surge isn't sufficient for protection. Look for one with higher joules.
