He just said he submitted the receipt to Lenovo. I'm going to do the same this evening.
I did this twice earlier this year. I just uploaded a Best Buy screenshot showing my pickup date to Lenovo's website, and they updated the warranty start date to match my pickup date for both machines.
- Warranty ran our in June of 2026 (which means it was "new" in June of 2025).
- Sticker residue in places where there are not stickers from the factory.
- Dust bunnies in the rear exhaust vents (the ones that take a lot of run time to develop).
- CrystalDiskInfo says nearly ~8000 power-on hours (333 days).
I am vehemently against labelling a display unit as open box, it seems extremely disingenuous. That being said, the current market (like as of this week), seems to be extremely dry for alternate options. Prices are insane.My gut tells me to return the one I got. My principles also tell me to return it based on the shady practice of marking it as open box. My poor gamer heart fears I won't be able to find anything else anywhere near this price point.It really is a nice machine. The monitor is gorgeous. Despite being a display model, I can't find any faults in the monitor, no dead or stuck pixels, HDR content plays beautifully. Cinebench R23 and 2026 scores are as they should be. CrystalDiskInfo puts the SSD health at 96% despite the long power on hours. Battery health is reportedly >95% as well. Keyboard is excellent (if you've never used a Lenovo keyboard, they have a reputation for being fantastic for a reason). The speakers are surprisingly good for down-firing.Someone in the other thread said they got an open box that was a display unit and contacted Lenovo, who did actually give them another full year of warranty. I think I'm going to contact Lenovo today and see if they'll do the same for me. I did a warranty fix then one month after the warranty expired it came back.
Doing a Costco warranty fix now but I'm fairly disappointed as I've only gotten 6-8 months of unproblematic use from it in 18 months of possessing it.
In any normal market, there's no way I'd accept this. You'll see others in the comments feeling similarly: in the current market it's kinda hard not to keep it even though I shouldn't because calling something with 8000 power on hours "new" is absolutely asinine.

When I got mine there were four at various other stores in the area and they're all gone now.
