How did I know it was open box?:
I am vehemently against labelling a display unit as open box, it seems extremely disingenuous. That being said, the current market (like as of this week), seems to be extremely dry for alternate options. Prices are insane.
My gut tells me to return the one I got. My principles also tell me to return it based on the shady practice of marking it as open box. My poor gamer heart fears I won't be able to find anything else anywhere near this price point.
It really is a nice machine. The monitor is gorgeous. Despite being a display model, I can't find any faults in the monitor, no dead or stuck pixels, HDR content plays beautifully. Cinebench R23 and 2026 scores are as they should be. CrystalDiskInfo puts the SSD health at 96% despite the long power on hours. Battery health is reportedly >95% as well. Keyboard is excellent (if you've never used a Lenovo keyboard, they have a reputation for being fantastic for a reason). The speakers are surprisingly good for down-firing.
Someone in the other thread said they got an open box that was a display unit and contacted Lenovo, who did actually give them another full year of warranty. I think I'm going to contact Lenovo today and see if they'll do the same for me. If they won't, I'm 100% returning it because I could get a better laptop on the official used market for this amount of money (since in my view, a display unit is "used" and not "new, open box").

Yeah that is pretty awful. 8k hours power on is a LOT even for a well built machine. No battery cycles, so the battery might be in decent shape, but still that is solidly a used machine at that point.

Fwiw my machine is in almost identical condition to yours. I am feeling inclined to keep it because I really don't see anything else out there that comes close for this price, including in the used market -- I've been trawling Ebay for a few months. Maybe I'm not seeing things clearly because this is such a nice machine compared to my falling apart Acer.
