This is a good deal on an older model. The new 720 has detachable battery power, Bluetooth 5.4, and Auracast, but for $899.

Yeah, this older model is not battery powered. At that point, I'd just get a used PA speaker, such as the common QSC K12 or similar, and add whatever bluetooth receiver. The goal would be around $500 for these used PA speakers, which can be found in excellent condition.

Only drawback is the PA speakers won't dip below 40Hz at lower volumes, whereas the Party box units are rated to go a little lower (at lower volumes). The Partybox units also can't play down low at high SPL though, which peak around 1/4 the volume of a proper PA speaker - something like 110dB Partybox vs 130dB pro PA speaker.

Either way, at this size and price, I'd either go proper PA speaker, or move to the 720 and use the battery option for convenience.

Those are great points. It's a pretty bad trade-off to pay for RGB lights over volume (for a party speaker) since lights are easy to add to your environment, but not so much additional volume... but for a medium space where these speakers would normally be oversized, they actually have a fuller sound getting lower at mid volume or less. Might not even miss having a sub.

I own this speaker and it's a beast. It can fill up a large room. The largest draw back is not having batteries. I don't use Auracast so cannot comment on that. Bluetooth 5.4 would be nice. Overall I think it's a solid buy at $600. I think at one point I saw it some place for $550, but maybe I am wrong.
