not to be one of those guys, but had to look up wtf melamine was.

In a nutshell, bamboo dishes may also contain melamine. In some bamboo dishes, melamine is used as a binder to hold the bamboo together. Melamine is a chemical compound originally thought only to be toxic to the kidney in large quantities (1). However, new research is shedding light on just how much damage can be done to the human body from ingesting melamine. In particular, research shows that even exposure to low doses of melamine has consequences to human health. Exposure to melamine can negatively impact brain development and even reproductive functions as melamine changes how hormones are supposed to work in the body (1). Unfortunately, melamine is not a compound that has been phased out of industry use as it possesses many desirable physical properties even though it has been shown to leach from dishes into foods (2). The good thing though is that you can avoid it.

Like everything it's suppose to be dangerous. So you decide if these are any better than regular plastic or not. If your buying because natural.

I got a few and actually looked into this after you posted it because I'm epileptic and had 20% of my brain removed a few years ago don't need to damage any more of me lol. You're not wrong, that is only a problem if you microwave it or eat literal boiling hot soups out of it. These bowls definitely aren't built for that so if anyone buys these as a serving bowl for warm ready to serve food or a big ass salad bowl they good.

It says "dishwasher safe" but dishwashers use very hot water to clean dishes. Melamine is made using formaldehyde and formaldehyde derivative chemicals, so simply washing it in the dishwasher can leach both formaldehyde and microplastics into whatever food you put in it. I also bought into this type of "eco" plasticware years ago, but I ended up throwing it away in favor of true "eco" stoneware/ceramics. They are heavier but safer. Didn't think I needed more neurological conditions after the diagnosed autism and fibromyalgia.
