Samsung's Q990 series soundbar bundle is a compact home theater setup that stands out for immersive surround sound, clear vocals, and strong wireless sub and rear speaker performance. The system can get very loud, handles Atmos and DTSX well, and the dual 8 inch sub is reported to fill even a 20 by 20 room better than expected. The main cautions are Samsung firmware and support headaches, including reports of bricked or unresponsive bars and Wi Fi disconnects. Some also find the bass and overall sound less satisfying than a separate AVR and speaker setup, especially at higher volumes.

  • Apartment or living-room movie fans wanting wireless surround sound, because it can get loud without noticeable distortion and handles Atmos upmixing well.

  • People setting up a TV without room for a full receiver and speakers, because the compact system still fills a large room and keeps the footprint small.

  • Samsung-phone owners who stream music over Bluetooth, because SSC pairing gives better quality than standard Bluetooth.

  • Buyers who want clear dialogue in a simple all-in-one setup, because vocals come through more clearly than on several other soundbars.

  • Owners who keep their soundbar online for firmware updates, because Samsung updates can brick the unit or leave it unresponsive.

  • Home theater fans who want deep, room-shaking bass, because the bundled sub stays compact and does not match a separate subwoofer.

  • Apple TV households that expect seamless everyday playback, because these soundbars can disconnect and work poorly with Apple TV pass-through.

  • Listeners who want a plug-and-play upgrade over a basic home theater, because the sound can feel underwhelming unless the volume is turned up high.

I bought this about a month ago using the educational discount for around $800. To be honest I was not that impressed I upgraded from a Vizio basic home theater system that was over 10 years old. I was used to listening to a Bose home theater sound system at my friend's house and thought it would kind of compare but it was a little bit underwhelming unless you turn up the volume pretty high.

does it come with wall mounts for rear speakers
It does not. The rears have 1/4" 20 thread mounting holes. There's lots of options. I got https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BV0FHG and am happy with it.

Does anyone think it'll go lower than this now that the Q990H is out?

There's a chance it could drop to $700 but IMO it will probably just sell out before it hits that price point.

I've got a Samsung HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch system from 2021.

I've done a lot of reading on whether an upgrade like this new system is worth it. I seem to read either "your current system is close enough to this new one, don't buy" or "get the new one, Samsung has made refinements that are meaningful"

In general, my system is fine, but i don't heard sounds as loudly from the surround speakers as I'd like to.

Please give advice, thanks!

Ah yes, the classic "I don't miss my Denon and Klipsch setup" said with the quiet confidence of someone who traded their Porsche for a Civic and is now writing a Yelp review about how acceleration, handling, and build quality are overrated anyway. The "form factor" defense is a great argument right up until the soundbar attempts to move air below 80Hz, at which point it does its best impression of an overpriced Bluetooth speaker having an asthma attack in a pillow fort. 😆 You clearly skimmed right past the YAS-109 - the entire point being a soundbar that solves your form factor concern And doesn't collapse into a wheezing mess the second bass shows up. Similar footprint. Real bass. A massive upgrade, and at less than half the price of the OP soundbar.
Been there done that. Spent tens of thousands on floorstanding amps wires blah blah now I have this and it works just fine lol. Life moves on kids travels etc. Now I rather drink coffee in masai mara or tour different part of the globe vs blasting speakers on stupid Hollywood movies lol. But yeah we get what you saying.

I used to be a soundbar hater but this is a totally different beast. I have the Q990D purchased a bit over a year ago for around this price with EPP and have been blown away. I have a Denon with Pioneer Andrew Jones speakers 7.1 setup in my media room so I know what a real discrete system can sound like. This isn't quite that but it's incredibly good for the form factor and looks great in the living room.

A lot of really good engineering went into these Samsung bars. They actually use a lossless codec for wireless transmission to the sub and rears, and can get incredibly loud without noticeable distortion. The DSP is very good as well. On most systems I prefer to listen in "stereo" mode for music but the "adaptive" mode that upmixes a stereo or 5.1 source to use all the channels actually sounds great on this system. I only toggle it to "Standard" when using a true Atmos source.

Another thing I'm not sure they advertise - if you use a samsung phone, my Q990D connects with SSC (Samsung Seamless Codec) for bluetooth, which gives great quality over standard bluetooth connection. I don't use bluetooth that much for it but it's a nice convenience.

If you get one of these make sure and try out some surround music. My personal favorites are Dire Straits Brothers in Arms (the 5.1 mix SACD sounds amazing on this) and the new Atmos Blu-ray of Alan Parson project Eye in the Sky has been a family favorite since it came out a couple months ago.

I have q990c. Not sure if it is worth to upgrade to q990f. The only problem on q990c is frequent wifi disconnects. Which is very irritating
