Samsung's Q990 series soundbar bundle is a compact home theater setup that stands out for immersive surround sound, clear vocals, and strong wireless sub and rear speaker performance. The system can get very loud, handles Atmos and DTSX well, and the dual 8 inch sub is reported to fill even a 20 by 20 room better than expected. The main cautions are Samsung firmware and support headaches, including reports of bricked or unresponsive bars and Wi Fi disconnects. Some also find the bass and overall sound less satisfying than a separate AVR and speaker setup, especially at higher volumes.

  • The bundle can deliver strong surround output with wireless sub and rear satellites included.

  • The system can produce clear vocals while keeping bass as a secondary focus.

  • The compact dual 8-inch sub can fill a 20x20 room well when expectations are set appropriately.

  • The Q990-series can work with Apple TV 4K to Samsung TVs via eARC without reported issues over several years.

  • Samsung firmware updates can brick soundbars and can also cause unresponsiveness after later versions.

  • The soundbar can have constant disconnects and poor performance with Apple TV even when using pass-through.

  • The soundbar may require turning the volume up pretty high to feel satisfying compared with other home theater systems.

  • The rear speakers can require 1/4-20 thread mounting holes, which may limit compatible wall-mount options.

Curious, how does this stack up against the Vizio M-Elevate? I've had it for about 3 yrs and it's been solid in my living room!

As would any sound bar because that's not its job. The bass on this thing is fine.. I don't understand why you would need anything stronger unless you had a theater room, in which case you aren't looking at this setup period. Are you commenting on the performance of this thing from experience or are you going through your 'my way is the best way' phase?
The soundbar in the OP ships with its own sub, so yeah - bass absolutely is its job, at the very reasonable price of $800 🤣

And if you'd actually read my original comment, you'd know I've owned the YAS-108 with a real, non-proprietary sub attached. So this isn't theory, it's a lived experience you're currently arguing against from the sidelines.

I've also gone through more proprietary-sub soundbars than I care to admit, and the pattern holds every time: the bundled sub is an afterthought, and the same money spent on a legit aftermarket sub eats it alive.

This is why the Yamaha soundbars with a standard, non-proprietary sub output are no longer made - it was a bang for the buck loophole too good to last.

Obviously a non proprietary setup is objectively a better setup for the same price generally speaking but this unit is actually pretty good for the price . My beef with all these soundbars is the vocals the bass has never been to me a huge issue but the vocals have always sounded muffled to some degree at least with the handful of soundbars I've had from JBl Visio klipsich etc. This unit though does a pretty good job with vocals from my experience with using it .
But obv it will never beat a separate unit setup for the price as it shouldn't , with a proprietary setup you are also paying for convenience

I got this exact deal a week ago with my .edu email address from work as it qualified for the deal. Got it at exactly that price, shipping free, and used the 0% financing. This thing sounds AWESOME!!! I'm really happy with it. It is exactly what I was looking for with wireless sub and surround satellites. The sound is great.

Fair enough.

The best vocals award, as determined by the harshest of critics (elderly people with hearing loss) actually went to this Philips soundbar ~$30 about 5 months ago:

Philips B5706 2.1-Channel Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer, Stadium EQ Mode

My guy, YOU are the one that wrote that the SOUND BAR would have weak bass. You don't understand the difference between a sound bar and a subwoofer or can we start writing off your opinion now since you think the two can be used interchangeably? This is like people who call a computer a CPU. And my question is directed at whether you own the Samsung sound bar you're doing a direct comparison against. Did you actually think I was confused about whether or not you owned a model no one else brought up in this thread except for you?! what are you smoking?

For anyone that's contemplating, set your expectation low and be surprise of how big this small system sound. The sub is a dual 8" sub and is very compact. It looks underwhelming coming out of the box but to my surprise, it fills my 20x20 room pretty well. Although it is not wall shaking bass as my dual 12" 1500w Velodyne subs in my other room but I think the bass is "almost" just right for this system. It can definitely use a little more bass but if I didn't also have the full size HT system with the dual velodynes the bass might be just fine. I did an UST projector and couldn't fit a full size center into the design, this was the next best thing and I'm happy with it. I don't think you can go wrong at this price, considering the price of a good AVR alone is at least the same price to start.

Don't be tempted to max out all your speaker levels, to compensate for the lower end, I actually lower the center and the rears almost to a minimum and the rest of the channels by ear depending on your space. This allows you to set the sub to max volume and compensate everything with just higher master volume.

I own this. My LG speakers were better than this. This isn't bad, but wish it had more volume controls and modes.
