Kinda sorta. I've used a similar device. While there is no rope your body still does the cadence as if there is one.Two big advantages of this type of rope are1) you can work at a consistent pace because you won't have to worry about hitting the rope.2) you can do this anywhere, like near a wall, or when the gym is crowded. Also some gyms won't let you jump rope because of the floor.

I don't understand. The thing that forces you to jump IS the rope lol. Otherwise you are just an idiot standing around, swinging your balls.

It also has a regular rope that u can use, I have one and it has both the rope to use and the ball picture shows the rope
