Indoors without line of sight to windows these can be useful.

My yard is extremely dark 1 Acre and I positioned it near the backside. My surrounding neighborhoods turn off their lights at night as well during termite season. I will see a mound of dead termites on the the wood and various other insects. Moths, mosquitoes, house fly, and sometimes a fly.
So yeah if you sitting outside on a bright porch and you have this next to it. I agree it not going to do much of anything. Maybe kill some moths. For inside I also don't see point of this one. I have a smaller device about size of coke can. It rechargeable. I leave it next to fruits in kitchen at night. Again all lights turned off completely off. It kills the fruit flies and the rare stray moth I might get in my house.
If you use it properly it will do the job extremely well.
What's the confusion?
I will say putting it at the far end of your yard does have some use depending how many beneficial insects you also have. If you're killing bugs that eat mosquitos tho, you done messed up
