This appears to be the preferred controller for Medical Students that use Anki decks. They wear it around their necks and use Anki on their laptops on the hospital shuttles commuting between campuses.
Biggest benefit of this controller is that it can identify itself as a keyboard. On the app you can map any key to any keyboard keypress. That opens up a slew of possibilities. Whether you are working on any custom hobby project or a home automation project, you can use this controller. Like the use case mentioned earlier in this thread, I use it to control my Kobo ebook reader (page flips, brightness, warmth, font size, chapter skips, screen rotation, dark mode etc.). So don't think of this controller as a gaming accessory. Think of it as a generic Bluetooth remote. The possibilities are endless.
The problem with competitors (such as the CRKD Atom) is that it can only identify itself as a gaming controller. So for non-gaming applications, it only works for devices that can accept gaming inputs such as an iPhone (I use a CRKD Atom as play/pause/skip back for audiobooks) when listening in bed. But if the recipient device cannot accept inputs from a gaming controller, you are out of luck. The CRKD Atom has much better build quality, so I prefer using that as an iOS controller for my iPhone or iPad. But it's not nearly as versatile as the 8BitDo controller.
