The single best filter for outdoor photography. Such a shame to have lost polarizing in the shift to photography with phones.

I still use a CPL for most of my shooting. Curious why do you say they have been lost to smartphone cameras?

Was genuinely curious of their take. There's an argument to be made that the instant multi-exposure HDR and digital processing done by smartphones can mimic what a polarizing filter achieves on DSLR/mirrorless cameras but, in my opinion, it still falls short in many situations.

If they said that smartphones were reducing the use of traditional inter-changeable lens format cameras (DSLRs, mirrorless, etc)....and as such, it's reducing the use of filters (CPL, ND, promist, etc) in photography....then sure, I'd be onboard.

The mobile phone camera you have in your pocket is better than the pro-tier camera sitting in your bag at home, and even as a photographer, my most used tool is the cellphone.

But I think they make clip-on/magnetic filters for cellphones, so I don't know what they were getting at?

No doubt. The accessibility of phone cameras is unmatched when it comes to getting a pretty good looking image with very little effort.
