The belief that aluminum is dangerous stems from common misconceptions regarding how these products work and how the body handles aluminum.
The Misconceptions
The Reality: Lymph nodes do not clear toxins through sweat glands—your liver and kidneys filter toxins. Research shows that only a tiny fraction (about 0.012%) of the aluminum in antiperspirant is absorbed through the skin, which is significantly less than the amount your body absorbs naturally from food. The American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute state there is no scientific evidence linking antiperspirant use to breast cancer.
The Reality: Modern, rigorous research has debunked this hypothesis. Major Alzheimer's organizations do not consider everyday aluminum exposure or antiperspirants to be a risk factor for developing the disease.
