Great for gaming. Some say you can get away with single DIMM in some situations due to the extra large cache.

I just got a 9600x with a free cooler for $175 or I may have gotten this since gaming build seems more fun and interesting in general.

doesn't beat combos for a full build, but i'd take it as a drop in over the similar priced 9600x for an upgrade.

the poster above getting downvoted is right about it allowing a single stick ram option to run close to full speed, but that's probably a pretty niche situation if not buying one of the 16gb combos that would invalidate this deal.

One of my systems has an overclocked 9600X and a 5070 Ti 16GB, another one with a 7800X3D and a 5070 Ti 16GB. They perform identically in games. The 9600X is actually faster in some games that prefer higher clocks. No problems playing any games maxed out at 1440p. DLSS Quality is fantastic. Oftentimes better than native resolution and TAA. I personally like the 9600X over the 7800X3D because you can overclock it, it runs cooler and easier to cool as well compared to first generation X3D CPUs. And no, - single channel is a terrible idea. Don't let nonsense of people on the internet who claim X3D cache does miracles on single channel single RAM systems. On CPU and bandwidth intensive games the extra cache won't do much to cover up the bandwidth deficiency, particularly if you're using 8GB GPUs. Frame time spikes and heavy stutters will be nasty. 0.1% and 1% lows will suffer a lot on single RAM single channel systems.

Great price. Too bad I'll have to sell my left nut for the memory to go with it.
